And for some people it’s just nice to jump around and have a little fun.

Bicycle tricks They are suitable where there are few people walking and cars driving, for example, some small area. You should also take into account that to perform stunts you must have a lot of experience riding a bicycle, at least one year, when you are already holding onto the bike quite firmly. It's like the GTA game where the more you ride your bike, the less often you fall off it. For example, I have never fallen while performing stunts for at least three years, with the exception of isolated cases with minor injuries. Don't believe me? That's your business. I also recommend pumping up a little, because to perform many tricks you will need physical strength. I’ll also note that all these tricks that are written about below have been tried/studied by me personally, so I won’t lie. I don’t like this business, even if the truth is not conveyed to a person’s joy. Better the bitter truth than a sweet lie. But let's not talk about philosophy for now... After all, we are talking about tricks on a bicycle :) So, let's get started!

Stairs

Preparation: The bike should preferably be a mountain or semi-mountain bike. Be sure (!) with the rear brake on the handle and that it works to its fullest extent. Wheel rims must be double. In short, the bike needs to be durable and in good condition, otherwise it might bend on you the first time you ride it down. And be sure to record front shock absorber if it works for you.

Action: To begin with, choose small stairs, say 3-4 steps. Approach the stairs while standing, with your legs slightly bent for shock absorption, as... you will be shaken violently when descending. Your feet should be parallel to each other on the pedals. The speed should be low: 5 km/h will be quite enough. And be sure (!) to make sure that there are no people below. As soon as you are already on the stairs, tip your body weight back and hold the rear brake so that the descent is not very fast. If you went down without any problems, try going down the same stairs a few more times. If everything is ok, look for a ladder with five steps and do the same method with it. Then try a staircase with six steps and so on. It is advisable to practice more on small stairs. I don’t advise you to go straight out onto a high staircase, because even if you make a mistake, it won’t seem like much. Stairs don't forgive mistakes:) It's better to ride small stairs a hundred times than to fall on big ones once.

"No Hands"

Preparation: You can choose any bicycle, but it must have big wheels and not be too old. Ideally, it is better to choose a road bike, one with large wheels. A smooth road is also helpful! And if the bike has speeds, we set it to almost maximum speed, for example, if there are 3 speeds on the left and 7 on the right, then on the left we leave it as is, and on the right we set it to 6 or 5.

Action: Hands-free riding is done at speed, and the higher the speed, the less likely it is to fall. Minimum – 10 km/h. Drive and try to let go of the steering wheel, but don’t move your hands too far. And as soon as you start to veer to the side, immediately grab the steering wheel back. In this matter, as in any other attempt to perform a trick, the key is practice. It will be a little scary at first, but then you will get used to it. And all random side turns can be adjusted with your knees.

Wheelie


Wheelie is when you pull out the front wheel on a bike, like you’re standing on a goat, but at the same time you’re also riding. In other words, Willy is riding rear wheel.

Preparation: To do this you need to be physically fit. The bike must have speeds. We set the speed to average: let’s say, on the left if there are 3 of them, we set it to 2, and on the right if there are 7 of them, we set it to 3 or 4. It is important here that it is convenient to pull Willie out. The saddle should be lowered, but not to the very bottom. Although... If you want to look like a grasshopper, then so be it!))) The road is better to be perfectly flat, preferably slightly uphill. I also recommend a working rear brake, because... he will save you if you suddenly start to fall backwards.

Action: To ride, Willie must learn to balance. Pull the steering wheel sharply towards you and press your foot into the pedal. These two actions must be performed simultaneously. It didn’t work out - no problem. Try again, and again, until you can maintain your balance. It is advisable to catch the balance right away, because... if you catch him on the run, Willie will be short-lived. And if you feel sideways, use your knees to control it. Let’s say he’s leaning to the left—pull your knee to the right. And by the way, when riding, you should extend your arms and your butt too, but be sure to remain seated on the saddle. And if you feel that the situation is getting worse every time, no problem. This is a normal phenomenon, it happens to everyone. And that means you're just tired. Rest for an hour or two, then practice some more. In general, it usually takes a month or a month and a half to master Willy, but some people have better luck. The main thing in this matter is desire and perseverance.

Advice: To avoid falling backwards, you should master the skill of jumping off the pedals to the ground when pulling out the wheel. Happened? Amazing! Now you can master Willy without fear of falling on your back. Only for this purpose the saddle should be raised for now, otherwise you may not have time to jump off your feet and end up falling on your back...

The most common mistakes when teaching Willie to ride

1. Fear... Confidence is required here. And the more it is, the easier it will be to master riding on the rear wheel. And keeping your finger on the brake will give you even more confidence in this matter.

2. As little sudden movements as possible. The wheelie should be performed smoothly and easily.

3. Don't bend your arms: The Willie ride should only be performed with straight arms.

4. For Willie practice, a dirt or street bike is best suited, while on an MTB you can learn this for an infinitely long time...

I also recommend choosing a place where there are fewer people if you are driving on the sidewalk, since their indignation at the factor of driving in a pedestrian zone will make you indignant as well, since this interferes with Willy’s competent performance. No fear and no worries. And the more self-confidence you have, the easier it will be to master wheelie riding.

Bunny Hop

Bunny hop or jumping on/over an obstacle is desirable not only for fans of stunts. It is also useful purely for driving, for example, when you are in a hurry to get somewhere and need to jump on the curb at speed.

Preparation: The strength of the bike matters, as do the strength of its wheels. The weight of the bike should preferably be small, no more than 12 kg. Ideally, the bike should be a stunt bike, for example, for street or dirt. However, Bannik on the Gornik is no exception, unless it is very heavy.

Action: Bunny hop is done at a speed of 10-20 km/h. When approaching an obstacle, we stand up and raise the front wheel. And the higher you raise it, the better. Pull the wheel out, and as soon as it is over the curb, sharply push the steering wheel forward with your hands, preferably 45 degrees up, and at the same time bend your legs to allow the rear wheel to rise too. Did not work out? No problem! The more you practice, the trick will become better. It’s better to practice through a thread or choose some small border so that it’s not so critical if something goes wrong.

Wheelie riding techniques

First you need to learn how to ride on the rear wheel. After mastering this technique, you may wonder how to lift the rear wheel on a bicycle to do.

There are two main options for rearing:

Choosing a place to study

It is much easier to do a wheelie uphill, and for mastering surfing, an area with a slight, smooth downhill slope is suitable. In both cases, the road on which you will ride must be level, long and smooth.

Performing a wheelie on a bicycle

The saddle must be lowered, otherwise it will be difficult to maintain balance. It is necessary to select such a height that at the moment when the connecting rods are parallel to the road surface, the knees are bent at an angle of about 90°. Your arms should not be bent, they should be straight.

It's difficult to determine the optimal speed at which to learn to wheelie, but it's not that important. The faster, the easier it is to keep your balance. Usually the middle sprocket on both wheels is selected.

Having accelerated to 12–15 km/h, you can begin to pull the steering wheel up and lift the front wheel, after transferring your body weight back. This is where the main difference between wheelie and surf comes into play. When performing a wheelie, the rider remains seated in the saddle, pedaling sharply during the jerk. In order to surf, you need to stand on the pedals. All other points are the same in both cases. Arms should always be straight. Trying to pull the front wheel towards you with bent arms is one of the main mistakes beginners make. You may be able to ride a few extra meters, but the bike will be impossible to control.

Another common mistake that beginners make when trying to stand on one wheel is applying too much or too little force to the steering wheel when pulling it out. In the first case, the bike begins to fall backwards, and you have to press the brake. In the second, he does not have time to reach the balance point and falls down. You need to find something in between, and then going to the rear wheel will not create any problems.

How to keep your balance

After the bike has reared up and the balance has been caught, the main thing is to learn how to maintain balance. When performing a wheelie, the bike is controlled by moving the center of gravity and changing its speed. If he falls forward, then you need to pedal faster and lean your body back. If you fall backwards, slow down gently and smoothly, while moving forward. When leaning to the right, the left knee is pointed to the side, and the right knee is pressed against the frame. When tilting to the left, the opposite is true. Controlling a bicycle while surfing requires the same actions, but without the participation of pedals.

With the right approach, mastering riding a bicycle on one wheel will be easy and fast, and you can move on to learning more complex techniques. You just need to practice more often and avoid mistakes, and sooner or later your efforts will pay off. desired result. How to do a wheelie (wheelie):
Why put 1-3? Because at 1-4 and higher it will be more difficult to catch the forward/backward balance. If it’s 1-2 or even 1-1, you simply won’t be able to accelerate, you’ll fall to the side. Choose a straight section of the road, preferably even a little uphill. Roll at low speed, pedaling, lean towards the steering wheel. When the pushing leg is in the upper position, do it in one quick movement: without getting up from the seat, pull the steering wheel towards you (raise the body) simultaneously with pressing the pedals (the main force is applied by the pushing leg, from the upper position to the lower). This must be done so that the bike does not fly out from under you, but also hard enough so that the front wheel does not immediately drop.

Balance "forward - backward":
The main idea with dosing is that if you feel like you are leaning back, you need to apply the rear brake very smoothly and quite briefly and immediately release it. And so that after pressing the bike not only does not stand on two wheels, but also the front wheel does not drop too much - this is the most difficult moment. Immediately after pressing, which will shift the balance forward, you need to press the pedals harder than usual. And continue in the same spirit.

Balance "right - left":
To correct the balance, you need to use your knees and steering wheel. With the knees, everything is quite simple - if it leans to the left, put your right knee to the side, and vice versa. With the steering wheel it’s about the same, only in reverse - turning the steering wheel to the right transfers the weight to the left. In principle, you will learn how to use the steering wheel, but there is a small catch with your knees - if you are pulled too far to the side, you will no longer be able to restore your balance by moving your knee away and continuing to pedal. In this case, you need to do a surf (Surf) - everything is the same, but without pedaling. With the abducted knee constantly exposed, the efficiency is much greater than when pedaling.

Main mistakes:
-don't be afraid to fall back. Try to pull the handlebars harder so that the bike “flies forward” and jump off the pedals, landing on two feet;
-no need to get up from the seat - when you wheelie (for the time being). This is the same as with your knee (you can stretch the bike this way if you are leaning forward too much, and then sit down again).
-do not lean towards the steering wheel when wheelieing (!) - your back should be laid back, your arms straight. Although sometimes it is useful to ride with slightly bent arms - it’s a little easier to catch the forward/backward balance, but your arms also get tired faster;
-the brake must be pressed smoothly;
-if you accelerate, press the pedals harder, shift the balance a little back and press the brake more often.

Dates:
It will take about a week before you drive 20 meters without accident (pressing the brake several times without losing your balance). This is for the stubborn, but the lazy never learn - for several days nothing happens and they lose interest. It’s better to try very often during the day and everything will work out.

Disputes often arise - is it better to sit in the saddle or stand on the pedals with bent legs. General recipe no - both methods have a right to exist, the main thing is to maintain the correct location of the center of gravity above the rear wheel. By the way, this largely depends on the design features of the bicycle. In any case, if you have good skills, you will be able to ride while sitting in the saddle with an air of complete serenity.

  • Often, the fear of falling prevails over the desire to learn this trick. One thing I can advise is to overcome it. Protective ammunition can play a significant role in this, allowing you to avoid serious injuries. In addition, you can, for starters, practice the correct dismount on both legs from a bicycle that has reared up and is out of control, letting it “under you” - this will certainly increase your confidence.
  • “Giving up” after the first failures. You shouldn't hope that success will come instantly. Don't believe those who say they went the first time. Even learning to simply ride a bicycle takes time and patience, let alone something like this extreme form driving. Practice shows that significant success comes after a week of training.
  • This has already been said - when the front wheel comes off, you cannot rely only on jerking the steering wheel with your hands- This is a dead-end option.
  • You should not bend over the steering wheel, even if this seems to be the safest position - it is impossible to maintain the center of gravity in such a position.
  • Sudden movements, acceleration and braking are a direct path to a fall. Everything should be smooth and proportionate.

In order to learn how to ride a wheelie, it is important not to be afraid or panic at the first failures. Only persistent training will bring positive results over time. However, time will pass when you will laugh at your current self, when such a trick will be easy to perform reflexively and even the thought that someone cannot master this will seem strange.
