So we came to the end in London: for two weeks, sports fans around the world watched with bated breath the desperate struggle of athletes for medals and experienced with them the joy of victories and the bitterness of defeats.

At the end of the Olympics, the US team took first place in the overall medal standings, winning 104 awards: 46 gold, 29 silver and 29 bronze. China is in second place with 87 medals (38, 27, 22), followed by the hosts of the Games, the British, with 65 medals (29, 17, 19). Russia was in honorable fourth place with 82 medals: 24 gold, 25 silver and 33 bronze.

However, yesterday on solemn ceremony At the closing of the Olympics, the spirit of competition gave way to general joy and jubilation in honor of all participants sports festival. Producing director Kim Gavin put on a truly large-scale and enchanting show (you could see some of the photos), which, according to many, turned out to be no worse than Danny Boyle.

Among the stage decorations were the main attractions of London - Big Ben, Tower Bridge, St. Paul's Cathedral. And the concert on the occasion of the closing of the London 2012 Games, A Symphony of British Music, became a kind of excursion into the history of British music. That evening the groups Muse, One Direction, The Pet Shop Boys, George Michael, Annie Lennox and other stars performed. They all participated in the ceremony for a nominal fee of one pound sterling.

The performance was also spectacular: the “peppercorns” rode onto the stage in black London cabs. Their performance left no one indifferent, including London Mayor Boris Johnson, who energetically danced on his podium to the song Spice Up Your Life.

The stage that evening also briefly turned into a catwalk, along which British top models proudly walked in golden dresses from Alexander McQueen - Georgia May Jagger and many others.

A mandatory part of the ceremony was the parade of the standard bearers of the Olympic teams of all countries participating in the 2012 Olympics. The Russian flag was carried by synchronized swimmer Anastasia Davydova, the only five-time medalist in the history of synchronized swimming. Olympic champion.

As part of the ceremony, London Mayor Boris Johnson handed over the Olympic flag to Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes, the Brazilian city where the 2016 Summer Olympics will be held. It is a special honor for Brazil: for the first time, the Olympics will be held in South America. At the end of the holiday, the Olympic flame in a bowl of 204 petals was solemnly extinguished. Each of the countries participating in the Olympic Games was able to take a “petal” with them as a souvenir.

Well, while some athletes will be preparing for a trip to Rio over the next four years, others will be in our Krasnodar region in two years, Winter Olympics in Sochi. Look forward to!
