Do-it-yourself wobbler - how to make homemade catchable baits. Instructions for making wobblers with your own hands How to make a spoon from a wine cork

Many fishermen dream of a catchable bait for successful fishing. For these purposes, manufacturers offer high-performance poppers. However, they are quite expensive. Not everyone wants to spend money on them, because every cast of a fishing rod is a risk of losing precious bait.

Therefore, a considerable number of fishermen are looking for ways to manually make bait at minimal cost that fish will bite on very often. Making a popper is, in principle, not difficult. First you need to decide what material it will be made from, and then you can get to work.

Cork popper

From items available in any home and an ordinary wine bottle stopper, etc. You can make a pretty catchy popper for fishing. For this you will need:

  • the cork itself;
  • paints (you can use nail polish or varnish);
  • sinker (preferably fishing);
  • regular paper clip;
  • construction sandpaper;
  • super glue or any equivalent.

The following tools will also be useful:

  • mini-drill (you can use a screwdriver with a screw-type attachment);
  • a vice or other fastening device;
  • awl;
  • stationery knife.

The most important thing in making this bait is to give it a natural shape. After this, the cork must be sanded. To do this, a plug is placed on the self-tapping screw. Using a screwdriver, the self-tapping screw is rotated, and processing is carried out during rotation.

It is important that the surface is absolutely smooth. Next comes the fastening. To do this, use a knife to make a cut to the center of the cork and insert a flattened half of a paper clip there. You want the curved end of the paperclip to stick out slightly from the cork. The resulting gap must be sealed.

Next you need to drill a small hole for the sinker. The size and shape of the hole depend on the sinker chosen. The main thing is that the overall design of the future bait does not fall apart. It is advisable to choose a sinker the size of one-fourth of the cork, no more. The weight of the sinker is also important.

You should choose sinkers weighing at least two and no more than four grams. We fix the sinker tightly with glue. The last stage is painting the artificial bait. Most fish species don't care what color their food is. The main thing is that the homemade product is noticeable. Therefore, it is better to paint it in bright colors that are visible on the surface of the water. So, the cork popper is ready.

Wood popper

The popper can also be made from wood, because it has no less buoyancy than cork:

  1. For work, you need to choose a tree branch that does not have knots, with a diameter of 1.5 - 2 centimeters. To work, you need approximately the same tools as when making a cork popper.
  2. Cut a piece from the branch. Depending on the shape of the homemade bait, we determine the length of the segment. The ideal length is considered to be from 3 to 5 cm.
  3. Using a regular stationery knife, you need to give the piece of branch the required shape. Next we install the mounting hardware.
  4. For this we use stainless steel wire. The size is not important, but it is desirable that it be rigid enough. This wire can be easily passed through the center of the branch without drills or complications. We twist the wire at the notched end.
  5. The popper needs to be dry. To do this, you can leave it on the battery or in the sun for a while. After drying, it must be treated with special moisture-resistant agents. Any alkyd paint, paints containing nitrates or regular drying oil will do.
  6. Next comes painting. Here the brighter the better. It is advisable to use several colors. The paint must be waterproof so that it does not lose color during fishing.
  7. The popper can be decorated with various trinkets: blankets, propellers of your choice. The main thing is that the more devices on the popper that create small noises and vibrations, the more attractive it will be to fish.

Thus, the fishing product is ready for use.

Manufacturing Features

The above describes methods for making poppers in general. Depending on where, in what weather and what kind of fish the fisherman expects to catch, the manufacture of bait has its own characteristics. For example, if fishing is carried out in a pond overgrown with grass, then the popper should not be green.

Non-hook popper: This type of popper has only one hook; it does not fly far because it does not have a sinker. But it has its advantages. It easily passes through the thickets on the surface of the reservoir and does not cling to branches and algae, thereby not getting stuck in one place.

Excellent for catching pike. This homemade product is made from ultra-light floating material. Styrofoam is perfect. It can be embellished with various dots, bright and noticeable patterns, etc. When using it, false bites are very common due to its lightness. However, fish are caught with this bait regularly.

Features of making poppers for different types of fish

The quality characteristics of a popper are important when catching certain types of fish. For example, for catching perch, the most important thing in this bait is size. Experienced fishermen know that perch is a shy fish. Therefore, it is better to use small baits for it. The weight of the bait should preferably be no more than 10 grams. Another question is pike fishing.

When fishing for pike, two types of poppers are used:

  • floating;
  • drowning;

Unlike fishing for perch, when fishing for pike, the size of the bait should be larger. So, if a product measuring 4-6 cm is used for perch, then a bait up to 10 cm is better suited for a toothy catch. They don’t pay attention to the color of the fish, so you need to select the paint based on your preferences.

A brighter color will be more noticeable and will allow for better wiring. The most important thing is to make the bait as similar as possible to the natural prey of the fish. Adding noticeable eyes and attaching fins would be a great solution.

If it is autumn, then it is best to make a sinking bait. To do this, you need to use heavier materials with low buoyancy. You can also make sinkers weighing more than 15 grams. On the contrary, in warm seasons the fish are very active and floating baits are perfect during this period.

It is best to make bait similar to locusts, grasshoppers or fish fry. But if this is not possible, you can get creative with paint and grooves on the surface of the bait.

  • floating baits should be bright, and have a recess deep enough so that the gurgling sound is characteristic of a fish;
  • must be used as a hook strong steel wires;
  • sinking poppers should not have a lot of extra accessories so as not to get caught in the algae and not get lost in them;
  • for each fish you need to select certain weight and size of the bait.

Making a wobbler with your own hands is not as difficult as it seems. Any complex pattern consists of simple lines, and a bladed wobbler consists of simple elements: a body, a load, a frame with rings for attaching tees, a blade. You can spend time and effort making such a wobbler in pursuit of several goals.

Saving. Branded wobblers are not cheap. It’s not a fact that a “brand” will work better than a self-made wobbler made according to branded patterns.

Experiment. Testing your work, bringing your ideas to life, using an expensive branded wobbler is not a completely rational approach. It is more advisable to spend some effort on homemade products, implementing your ideas from scratch.

Material selection

First of all, you need to decide on the materials and tools for making bait.

Frame

Tree

  • alder– hard material;
  • Linden– hard material, easy to process;
  • balsa- a hard material, the lightest in weight of plant materials, the only species of the subfamily Bombaxaceae;
  • cork– soft material.

Synthetic material

  • Expanded polystyrene. A type of polystyrene foam is a soft material;
  • PVC– soft material, easy to process.

Blade (blade)

  • metal (1-1.5 mm);
  • plastic-polycarbonate (2 mm).

Frame

Usually made of ferrous wire and used to hang tees. You can use mesh wire - chain-link with a diameter of 0.4-0.6 mm.

  • hunting shot;
  • lead pellets;
  • lead rectangles and cylinders.

paints and varnishes

  • epoxy resin;
  • deck varnish;
  • waterproof glue;
  • BT-177 silver, bronze, gold (can be mixed with epoxy resin to form the main color of the wobbler);
  • waterproof paint for painting the body.

Tools

  1. A fine-toothed hacksaw or jigsaw with a fine-toothed blade.
  2. Electric or hand drill.
  3. Wood drills of various diameters.

  6. Sandpaper No. 0, No. 1, No. 2.
  7. Pliers.
  8. Files.
  9. Vise.

Main stages of production

The whole process can be broken down into the following steps:

  • manufacturing of the parts themselves (body, blade, frame);
  • assembly;
  • finishing;
  • tests.
  1. Option 1
  • primer;
  • painting the bait;
  • varnish coating.
  • Option 2
    • epoxy resin coating;
    • spinner painting;
    • varnish coating;
    • final fine processing.

    Plan for manufacturing a blade wobbler

    Case manufacturing

    Wobbler drawing

    1. The contours of the bait are drawn on hard paper or aluminum foil - the wobbler is outlined with a pencil - side view, top view, adjusted using a ruler and patterns. You can make an accurate drawing using a caliper, patterns, or ruler. You can use drawings with exact body dimensions from the Internet.
    2. The outline is cut out.
    3. The contour is transferred to workpiece No. 1, outlined with a felt-tip pen or marker, and additional markings are made with a marker to indicate the places of fastening of the shipment, the frame for the tees, and the blade.

    It is best to prepare preparation No. 1 in advance. A block of the required thickness from hard or soft material is cut to the size of the wobbler without a blade.

    Making a rough model

    1. Using a fine-toothed saw, a rough model of a spatula is cut along a pre-marked contour from workpiece No. 1, made of hard material (You can use a jigsaw if you have the skill to work with a fine-toothed saw).
    2. Using a knife, a rough model of a spatula is cut out along a previously drawn contour from workpiece No. 1, made of soft material.
    3. The corners are trimmed with a knife, processed with coarse sandpaper, then with fine sandpaper. Recesses in the form of gills, eyes, and other profiles are sharpened with a knife and a file.
    4. Smoothed again with zero sandpaper.

    Rough model of a wobbler – Blank No. 2 made of solid material, ready for further processing.

    Workpiece No. 2 made of soft material is processed as follows:

    1. It is cut in half along the axis with a slight offset in any direction. You will get two halves - one slightly thicker, the other thinner.
    2. In the thicker half, channels are cut for the wire frame, and recesses are made for shipping. A lead shipment in the form of a small rectangle, which is easy to make with pliers and a hammer, works best.
    3. The two halves are processed with fine sandpaper to give the final shape of the wobbler.
    4. Wire frame is inserted and shipped.
    5. The two halves are connected, but until the bait passes the test, they do not stick together. The two halves are held together with a thin rubber band or thin wire.
    6. A slot is made in the head part of the bladed wobbler with a hacksaw at a certain angle to install the blade - the blade. When the blade is ready, it must be inserted into the slot, and the wobbler will be ready for testing.

    Processing workpiece No. 2 from solid material.

    The channels are cut with a fine-toothed saw for the wire frame and for the blade.

    There are many shipping placement options:

    1. Fastening the pellets: in certain places, symmetrically on both sides, on the sides, holes are made with a drill with a depth slightly larger than the diameter of the pellets, the pellets are inserted, then filled with epoxy resin.
    2. Along the axis of symmetry: on the back or abdomen, in certain places, a hole is made with a drill to the size of the pellets, the pellets are inserted, and filled with epoxy resin.
    3. In the material of two halves, in the inner part, holes for pellets are cut in certain places.
    4. Fastening lead cylinders. In the solid material, in the right place, in the side of workpiece No. 2, a through hole is drilled to the diameter of a lead or iron cylinder, then the cylinder is inserted.
    5. The placement of rectangular shipments for soft material has been described previously.

    Rattle made from pellets. A hole of the required diameter, larger than the diameter of the balls, is drilled along the axis of symmetry of the wobbler. The balls are inserted into the hole, the hole is plugged with a plug made of wobbler material, greased with glue, and covered with epoxy resin. Or this: a thin-walled metal tube (can be picked up from children's toys or removed from a brush) is inserted into the hole, in which balls are pre-filled.

    There are no clear instructions and recommendations on where and how to place the shipment. It all depends on the preferences of the angler. The main thing is to decide what kind of spoon you are preparing in terms of buoyancy, game, and retrieve. In any case, during testing, the weight and location of the shipment can be adjusted. Excess holes are plugged with a plug made of the same material as the wobbler, covered with epoxy or glue, and processed with a knife and fine sandpaper.

    Making a blade

    Spatula the right size sawn or cut out of metal (1-1.5 mm) or plastic-polycarbonate (2 mm) along the prepared contour, the edges are processed with fine sandpaper or a file.

    Depending on where the main line is supposed to be attached - to the head or to the shoulder blade, a wire frame is prepared. The loops are made in the places where the tees are attached. If you attach the fishing line to the blade ring, it is recommended, in addition to gluing the blade at the junction with the body, to prevent it from being pulled out of the body, to make a through hole in the body and blade, and insert a pin from a thin nail with a cut off head.

    A nail slightly larger in diameter than the hole should fit tightly into the hole. In this case, the loop on the wire frame is twisted at the location of the stud pin. The pin will securely connect the body, wire frame, and blade. When loaded, the blade will not break out of the bait body.

    The sketch shows that to attach the ring to the blade, it is recommended to make two or three twists in the wire bent in half to form a ring, insert both ends of the wire into the hole of the blade up to the ring, cut off the excess ends of the wire, straighten it, pressing the antennae tightly to the blade, cover with epoxy resin , clean up the sagging marks with sandpaper after drying.

    Frame

    The frame is made of ferrous wire. A wire with a diameter of 0.4-0.6 mm from a chain-link mesh used for country fences is suitable. Loops - rings on a wire frame are twisted at the points where the tees are attached. In the case of attaching the fishing line to the blade, the first loop in the front part of the frame is made in the same plane as the spoon. A pin - a nail - must pass through this loop, so it is made small.

    Assembling a wobbler from solid material

    1. A wire frame with rings is inserted into the channel.
    2. Filled with epoxy resin.
    3. The spatula is inserted. Waterproof adhesive can be applied either to the paddle slot in the body or to the paddle.
    4. In the case of attaching the fishing line to the blade, a pin is inserted in the head part, as described above.
    5. We are waiting for the glue and resin to harden.
    6. We process frozen smudges.

    Tests

    For testing, a bath filled with water is suitable. The assembled bladed wobbler must be run-in. The fishing line is tied to the spatula either by the head or by the shoulder blade and pulled through the water.

    If balancing, play, and buoyancy are satisfactory, then the bait is ready for further processing. If not, you will have to experiment with the inclination of the blade and the release. Excess holes can either be plugged with a plug with glue applied, or filled with epoxy.

    After testing a wobbler made of soft material, we proceed to assembly.

    Assembling bait from soft material

    Let's repeat what was described above:

    1. After testing the bait in a bath of water, remove the temporary fastenings.
    2. Glue the two halves together.
    3. We are waiting for the glue to dry.
    4. Insert the spatula with glue applied into the slot.
    5. We are waiting for the glue to dry.
    6. We process glue smudges.

    Finishing

    Extra dents, holes, chips are not yet a reason to throw away a homemade product. Defects can be covered with epoxy resin. After the resin has dried, the sagging is treated with zero.

    We finally clean up all the defects with sandpaper No. 0.

    The body must be ready for painting.

    Painting options

    First

    1. Before painting, prime the body with any white primer enamel.
    2. The base paint is applied, and after drying the selected pattern is added.
    3. After the paint has dried, deck varnish is applied in several layers.

    Second

    1. The workpiece is coated with epoxy resin with the addition of BT-177 paint to give the wobbler the desired base color.

    The product is dry and ready for use.

    Made from foam or plastic in the shape of an insect

    You can make disposable baits in the form of insects, crustaceans, and worms. An insect, for example a cockchafer, is cut out of polystyrene foam (plastic) and processed with a file and fine sandpaper to give it its final shape. Portrait resemblance to the original is not necessary. For predatory fish, the main thing is that your work is in motion.

    Two-piece foam fish

    You can make a soft composite fish from foam rubber. Usually a two-piece fish is made.

    1. A loop is made at one end of a ferrous wire of the required length.
    2. From the other, sharp end, a blank of the first half of a soft fish cut from foam rubber is strung along the axis.
    3. A second loop is made.
    4. The wire for the other knee is threaded into the lower loop, and the loop is twisted on the second wire.
    5. A foam rubber blank of the tail part of the fish is strung onto the wire of the second bend.
    6. The last loop is made for the tee.
    7. The soft foam parts of the fish can be painted, although there is not much point in this. It is better to pre-paint the foam rubber in some color.

    Whether or not to hang a tee in the middle is up to the fisherman to decide. Instead of tees, doubles or single hooks are sometimes used.

    Such a fish is used with a lead sinker installed in front of the fish, or attached when fishing with a lead. When moving, if everything is done correctly, it will wag its tail and attract predatory fish.

    Useful video

    Making bladed wobblers with your own hands at home can not only become an exciting hobby for an angler, but will also save him from significant expenses on purchasing branded products. It will also allow you to bring ideas and plans to life. There is no more pleasant moment for an angler than catching a large fish using a mini wobbler of his own making. Besides the pleasure of good catch, a person experiences the joy of creative success.

    Greetings to all DIYers!

    The author devotes this article to a very interesting and familiar craft to all of us: fishing. After all, for many of us this type of hobby brings a lot of positive emotions. Moreover, fishing is a powerful antidepressant. When you come to nature, to your favorite body of water, all everyday problems disappear like unnecessary garbage. We are already immersed in a completely different world, where we feel good.

    Let's move on to the homemade product itself.

    Many of us use different types bait These include rotating and oscillating spoons, jigs, spinners, poppers, balancers and many others, but we will talk about this type of bait as a Wobbler.

    All of the above baits can be easily purchased at a fishing store. But it would be very easy and costly, because you and I can do it without special effort make your own homemade fishing bait with minimal cost.

    To create a wobbler we will need.

    Material:

    Beer stopper;
    - paper clips;
    - Styrofoam;
    - two small screws;
    - swivel with clasp;
    - double or triple hook with a winding ring.

    Tool:

    Wire cutters;
    - stationery knife.

    Well let's begin!
    We take in our hands a standard cap from beer or any other drink. Next, using wire cutters, we bite off three notches on both sides. Example in the photo. This will be the so-called front and tail blade.

    Then, using our hands, we squeeze both halves of the cork. We get such an unusual blank for the future wobbler.

    Next, take the polystyrene foam and use a utility knife to cut a piece from it. We put it inside the cork, this way we will increase the buoyancy of the tackle.

    Now you need to make a small hole in the tail part and use a small self-tapping screw to secure the swivel with a clasp and hooks.

    Next, you need to make a core from a regular paper clip. It will connect the tail part to the front part, and will also be fixed to the fishing line.

    More details are shown in the photo.

    That's it, everything is ready! We have created a simple and unpretentious wobbler for catching perch and other predatory fish. All that remains is a small matter, namely, going to your favorite body of water and adjusting the gear a little. This can be done by using the front and rear blades, meaning they will need to be bent or straightened, thus changing the movement in the water.

    By creating new baits with his own hands, the angler expands his capabilities on the pond.

    CROATIAN CHAMPAGNE CORK EGG

    The bait called “Croatian egg” is now on the lips of every spinner. Gaining popularity at the beginning of the 21st century, this invention of a fisherman from Croatia also captivated the fishermen of our country. The advantage of a non-clinging bait is the possibility of unhindered fishing in overgrown areas of the reservoir. In turn, the predator also appreciated it, including it in his list of preferences! Unfortunately, the price in fishing stores is steep, and every predatory fish hunter prefers to have a Croatian egg.
    But there is always a way out!

    You can make a catchy bait yourself. Modern craftsmen have learned to do this in several ways. Let's consider one of them.

    First, we process the champagne cork with a sharp knife (a stationery knife will do) to give it a streamlined teardrop shape. We trim with a file or emery. To install the hook, use a hacksaw to make a cut along the central axis of the bait from edge to edge. An offset hook or any elongated hook with a wire at the end of which has a ring for fastening is suitable. The hook should protrude 2/3 of the length of the bait’s body from the narrower part, be strong and, most importantly, of a rather large size! We glue it into the groove made throughout the body of the future bait with waterproof glue. Fill the recess with a mixture of glue and remaining shavings. The next stage is shipment. Pour water into the container and immerse the bait. Using round lead weights, we achieve a position on the water when the hook looks up. We install weights in counterweight in a row from below and glue them into the body of the bait. After drying, sand it. We paint as desired and varnish.

    The bait looks more interesting when it has eyes on the edges. The resistance to snagging from aquatic plants can be increased by attaching even plastic antennae, which should extend from the body of the bait and end on the hook sting. The hook can be supplemented with fish-irritating feathers made of various materials. A popper effect can be achieved by adding an additional cupped indentation to the nose during manufacture.

    POPPER FROM WINE AND BEER CORKS

    You will need: a cylindrical wine stopper and a shallow metal stopper from a glass bottle, wire, glue, tee, pliers, knife. First, we make a slot in the wine cork for the wire frame. It must be passed along the entire body to the central axis, taking into account that the working position of the plug will be horizontal. We make rings on the wire at both ends: one for fastening, the second for a tee. We place the frame in the prepared groove, glue it in and fill the remaining cavity to make it round. Choose which side

    there will be a bait head. We punch a hole in the center of the metal plug so that the ring of the wire frame goes through it, and glue it outside to the end of the wine cork. We fix the tee through the winding ring on the other side. So that the bait retains correct position on the water, insert a weight from below. If a second tee is needed, you first need to lay a branch in the frame in order to have an additional ring, and add a vertical hole in the center to the longitudinal slot in the body, into which this additional ring will fit. If desired, we paint it, creating attack points on the body of the bait, and cover it with varnish.

    wobbler

    Using the methods for making baits described above as a basis, you can make a small wobbler. The body of the future wobbler is cut out of cork. A wire frame with points for fastening hooks and balancing weights is mounted in it. In the head part, at an angle, we glue into the additional cut a treated blade made of hard plastic, cut with scissors. The design will be similar in appearance to the equipment of a factory wobbler. Using the tool, we adjust the operation of the bait by changing the blade. We paint and varnish. The wobbler can be made two- or three-part by providing flexible connections for ring-to-ring elements in the wire frame.

    FLOAT

    Having given the desired shape to the body of the cork, you can make a regular float for fishing! Having decided on the attachment point, we equip the future float with a keel and antenna. Perhaps it will be one element inserted through the body. A float to increase the load capacity can be made from several plugs fastened together. Since the float itself is not responsible for landing fish, the fastening of all its elements can be done separately. Additionally, they need to be sealed against water penetration with glue or varnish. We paint and varnish.

    WEIGHTING FLOAT EQUIPMENT

    The weighting agent can be the loaded part of the plug, which maintains buoyancy.
    A cambric is glued into the center of the cork from edge to edge to allow the main line to pass through. On the rig, such a weight is fixed above the main float with stoppers. After this, the problem of unhindered casting of light equipment with a rod was solved.

    NIPPLE FEEDER

    The basic rule here is: the weight of the feeder should be at the bottom, and the plug filled with bait should look up. Plastic plugs of any size can be used as a feeder. The advantage of such feeders: dosed consumption of bait and clean hands. There are a huge variety of methods for making such feeders and methods for equipping them with hooks, and every angler considers his to be the simplest and most effective.

    The simplest way: take a sliding lead sinker of a flat shape according to the size of the cork. .Such a sinker can be cast into a finished mold in the form of a metal plug. We attach the plastic plug to this sinker with a small screw or other method. The question remains: how to equip? The simplest way: if the main line passes through the sinker, put a rocker with leads. More effective: make the leashes closer to the bait. To do this, a hole for the fishing line is drilled obliquely through the cork and the weight. The feeder is limited along the way at the level of fastening short leashes. After casting in working condition, the hooks with the nozzle, slightly peeking out from the feeder's feed, will look more appetizing to the fish. Also, hooks can be hidden in the thickness of the food without attachment or be attached with a foam ball. To self-hook fish, it is enough to install a movement limiter of the feeder along the main line immediately or after a certain distance.

    Alexey Bakhryukov

    The hot summer begins to lose its strength. Very soon the temperature will drop a little and the long-awaited autumn will come, when fishermen will take up their spinning rods. A huge number of baits will fly into the expanses of water, with only one purpose - to attract the attention of hunting predatory fish. However, you should not give preference only to store-bought spinners, wobblers and other fishing lures. Without much effort or expense, you can make your own attractive tackle that will work great and bring decent catches. Today I want to talk about how to make a catchy wobbler from a beer cap with your own hands, which is suitable for perch fishing.

    To make a homemade simple wobbler you will need:
    beer stopper;
    paper clips;
    2 small self-tapping screws;
    triple or double hook with a winding ring;
    swivel with clasp;
    Styrofoam;
    wire cutters.

    The process of making a homemade wobbler with your own hands:
    1. Take a beer cap and bite off 3 cloves on both sides as shown in the photo. You should have a tail and a front blade.

    2. Then with our hands we squeeze the rounded parts of the iron plug towards each other. The result should be a blank for the future wobbler. You can see it in the photo.

    3. Cut off a piece of foam plastic with a stationery knife and place it inside a homemade wobbler. This will help increase the buoyancy of the bait and excellent performance when fishing in a pond.
    4. We make a hole in the tail blade and use a self-tapping screw to attach a swivel with a clasp and a hook.

    5. We make a core from a paper clip that will connect the tail part to the front part and will be attached to fishing line. The photo shows how to secure this part of the wobbler.

    6. It turns out to be an excellent homemade perch wobbler. Now all that remains is to go to the pond, adjust the tilt of the front blade and enjoy catching striped predators.

    You can always change the double hook to a triple hook, add or remove the red plastic tail and, as a result of trials and experiments, achieve trouble-free catchability. I wish all fishermen a warm autumn and good fishing. Don't be lazy and make your own fishing lures. Good luck!
