But you can completely trust the data only if it is correctly installed and configured.

Types of bike computers

Also, the installation process may be slightly supplemented depending on the functionality of the accessory. So, for example, if cadence counting is provided in the cycling computer, then the sensors will need to be installed on.

Correct installation

It is best to start the installation of the bike computer from the top - with the base set to. It is on the mounting platform that the bike computer itself will be fixed in the future. You can install it either on the steering wheel itself or on the take-out.

There is no fundamental difference in this, it all depends on your own preferences. A small plus in favor of installing a computer to take away is that in this place the computer will be larger.

The base is fixed to the handlebars with an elastic band. If its tension is not enough for the bike computer to be securely fixed, then you can additionally secure the mounting platform using double-sided tape.

If it's a pity to stain the steering wheel with glue, then you can just put a piece of rubber in order to prevent the bike computer from sliding on the handlebars or stem.

The next step is laying the wire, if there is one, of course. Before installing the bike computer on the bike, you need to estimate the length of the wire.

If this is sufficient, it is best to wind the bike computer harness around or on the front brake cable. In this case, there will be no need to fix it in many places and it will not interfere.

It is necessary to wind the cable up to the gorilla (the place where the front fender should be attached), and then stretch it to the opposite leg from the brake rotor.

If the length of the cable is small, then you will have to fix it on. It is important that it does not dangle or stick out anywhere. On the other hand, it is necessary to leave gaps in the area of ​​the head tube so that the steering wheel can turn freely.

The postings should be fixed in the following places:

  1. On the handlebars next to the mounting pad;
  2. On the handlebars next to the stem;
  3. In the center of the stem;
  4. Near the fork stem;
  5. On the crown of the fork;
  6. On a gorilla;
  7. In the middle between the gorilla and the sensor;
  8. Near the sensor mount.

With this frequency of fixing, the wire will be securely fixed and will not dangle. It is important to note that there is no need to fix the wiring on the head tube.

The final stage of installation is to attach the sensor and magnet. The distance from which the sensor and the magnet should be mounted should be specified in the instructions for the specific cycling computer.

The sensor should be perpendicular to the wheel, and the magnet should "look" straight at the sensor. If the magnet or sensor is deflected to the sides, then the speed and, accordingly, the mileage will be inaccurate.

The magnet should not be too close or too far from the sensor, within 2-5 mm, but this distance should also be specified in the instruction manual.

If a cadence sensor is provided, then it must be installed by analogy with the speedometer. The magnet should be mounted preferably on the left crank arm, and the sensor on the frame tube: either the bottom or the seatpost, depending on the model.

How to set up the cycling computer is described in detail in each manual. It is impossible to tell about some universal method and procedure for setting it up, since almost every model is individual.

The main indicator on which the correct setting of the bike computer depends is. You can find it out from the table below, it should also be in the instructions for the bike computer.

It should be noted that it is necessary to take into account not only the diameter of the wheel, but also the width that is installed. Indeed, often, its height also depends on the width. True, the error still exists.

The dependence of the width of the tire on its height is different for some manufacturers. For example, Schwalbe tires are slightly larger than Continental tires of the same size. It is almost impossible to take this into account in the table. Despite this, the error will be extremely small.

Those who need the most accurate speedometer readings can measure the circumference on their own in two ways. The first is measuring with a thread. It needs to be wrapped around the outer diameter, i.e. on the tread.

Second way. It is necessary to mark the point of contact on the asphalt and tire. Then drive exactly one revolution so that the point marked on the tire touches the asphalt again and makes a mark on it.

The distance on the asphalt between two points will be the longest circle. It is believed that the second method is more accurate, since the tire deforms while driving.

During setup, you will also need to set the date and time as standard. On bike computers, you will need to indicate your weight, height, age and gender. You should also not forget about the choice of units of measurement.

Outcome

Correct attachment and adjustment of the bike computer is the key to the accuracy of its readings. The article described the general installation and configuration procedure, which will vary depending on the specific model.

To fully trust what the bike computer shows, it is imperative to read the instructions.

1. Zeroing. Before starting the cycling computer, you must reset its previous parameters. To reset the readings of the cycling computer, it is necessary to remove from the slot for a short time the flat rechargeable battery located under the cover on the back of the display and insert it back into the slot.

2. Wheel circumference. The display will show the digits "2060", the first digit on the right will blink. The figures shown represent the circumference of the bicycle tire. For correct subsequent measurements of the parameters of the movement of the bicycle, it is necessary to set the wheel circumference of your bicycle. This can be done in the following main ways:

Directly measure the wheel circumference;

To select the circumference using the table, you need to find its diameter on the wheel tire, for example "26x1.25". In the table, we find, opposite the given diameter, the corresponding circumference - 1953 mm and enter it into the bicycle computer. To enter numbers, press the right button in succession and set the desired value of the right digit in the circumference (in our case, "3"). Then briefly press the left button. The second digit on the right side starts flashing. In the same way, with the right button we set the second digit (in our case "5") and in the same way set the two remaining digits "9" and "1".

A second more accurate way to measure the circumference of a wheel:

Apply a thin but thick transverse line on the tire with white chalk (tires must be pre-inflated to normal operating pressure). Next, you need to sit on the bike and slowly drive in a straight line for more than one wheel revolution, so that the first and second chalk marks on the tire are imprinted on the asphalt or other hard surface (this operation is best done with an assistant holding you while driving). Next, you need to measure the distance between the two risks in mm on the asphalt with a tape measure and enter the numbers into the bike computer in the way indicated above.

Press the LEFT button on the bike computer display to select the value of the desired parameter, then press the RIGHT button to store the value (from 0 mm to 9999 mm). Press the RIGHT button to turn on the CM / H mode.

3.Installation of KM / Ch and M / Ch
Press the right button to select KM / H or M / H. Press the LEFT button to enter ready mode. Press the LEFT button to cancel and enter CLOCK mode.

4... CLK mode - Clock mode

6. Resetting the ODO parameter
Press the RIGHT and LEFT buttons simultaneously and keep them pressed for 3 seconds to reset the ODO parameters.
This will reset the wheel size and range. The time will remain unchanged.

7. SPD - indication of the current speed(similar to the speedometer reading in a car)
The current speed is constantly displayed on the screen. The maximum possible value is 99.9 km / h, the accuracy is +/- 0.1 km / h.

During the ride, a "+" or "-" indicator appears on the screen, which means that the current speed becomes higher or lower than the average speed during the trip.

Sleep Mode - Sleep mode
If there is no signal from the sensor of the cycling computer for 5 minutes, the display goes into sleep mode, only the clock is shown on the screen.

Installing bike computer parts

1.Fasten the reed switch (magnet) in the form of a cylindrical post to the outer spoke of the front wheel. The transducer is mounted with a screw on it so that you can move the transducer with a little force along the spoke as you select the desired position. In this case, the end of the sensor, with the magnetic part, must face the reader, which is to be fixed on the plug.

2. Install the reader (stationary) of the cycling computer on the interior racks (feathers) of the bicycle front fork with Velcro and additional fastening with two plastic clips. If there is a disc brake on the front wheel, it is better to install the reader on the fork post opposite from the brake disc. When choosing the place of attachment of the reader, it is necessary to proceed from the fact that the distance between the end of the sensor and the reader during the rotation of the wheel should be within 0.2-0.3 cm (while the end of the sensor should move against the central part of the reader). After setting the distance, finally secure the sensor to the spoke and the reader to the fork. At the same time, when finally tightening the fastening plastic clamps on the reader and the fastening screw on the sensor, the distance between the reader and the sensor should increase to 0.5-1.0 mm. This will be the correct working distance between the sensor and the bike computer reader.

3. Secure the display mounting pad with Velcro and two plastic clips to the handlebar.

Before attaching the display mounting pad to the steering wheel, it is advisable to pre-lay the wire from the reader to the display of the bike computer in such a way that, for any turns of the steering wheel, this wire remains free and without tension. Further, the wire from the reader is additionally fastened with flexible plastic clips in the right places.

4. We fix the display of the bike computer on the mounting platform.

Secure the table to the handlebars using plastic straps (or rubber bands) and a rubber pad. Secure the sensor to the fork using plastic clamps (or rubber bands), do not tighten them all the way and a rubber gasket. Then attach the magnet to the spoke of the front wheel so that the distance between it and the sensor is no more than 5mm. Place the cycling computer on the table (until it clicks). Raise the front wheel and spin it. If the indication appears, then the bike computer is installed correctly, if not, check the position of the sensor and the sensor. Then tighten the clamps and magnet fasteners. To avoid damage to the wire connecting the sensor and the stage, it is recommended to fix it in several places with electrical tape / tape and / or wrap it around the frame, brake jacket and fork.

Current speed
The current speed is always displayed on the top line while driving (current speed up to 99.9 km / h or 62.0 mph).

Distance traveled ( DST)

DST shows distance data from the last counter reset operation.

Total mileage (ODO)
ODO shows the total distance traveled during the entire operation of the cycling computer, ODO data can be discarded.

Average speed ( AVG)
AVG calculated from the moment of the last reset.

By default, the cycling computer has a wheel circumference of 2155 mm. The more accurate you take measurements, the more accurate the information will be given by the cycling computer. To determine the size of the wheel circumference, place your bike on a level surface. Make a mark on the surface of the front wheel (for example, the cam valve). Move the bike so that the wheel makes one full revolution. The distance between the observed points is the measured circumference of the wheel. For a faster, but less accurate determination of the size of the wheel circumference, you can use the table (Fig. B, see the manufacturer's instructions).

Setting after replacing / installing the battery:
1. After replacing the battery, all data will be erased and an automatic LCD test will be performed.

2. Press the SET button to stop the LCD test, then press the SET button to select "km / h" or "m / h". Holding down the SET button will fix the selected value.

3. After selecting the unit of measurement, the digits for setting the wheel circumference will start blinking, press the SET button the required number of times to enter the desired value, to fix the value, hold the SET button for 1 second, after which the transition to another blinking digit will occur.

4. After setting the wheel circumference, the ODO (total mileage) setting will start flashing, this function is only needed when changing the battery, so that the total mileage data will be saved. Press the SET button the required number of times to enter the desired value, to fix the value, hold the SET button for 1 second, after which the transition to another flashing digit will take place.

Setting during operation:

1. To reset AVG data ( average speed) and DST (distance traveled), press SET once to enter the (RESET) mode, then hold SET for 3 seconds.

2. To set the wheel circumference and total mileage (ODO), press SET twice to enter the (SETUP) mode, then hold SET for 3 seconds, the digits for setting the wheel circumference will start blinking, press the SET button the required number of times to enter the desired value, to fix the value, hold down the SET button for 1 second, after which the transition to another flashing digit will occur. After the digits for setting the total mileage (ODO) will start blinking, press the SET button the required number of times to enter the desired value, to fix the value, hold the SET button for 1 second, after which the transition to another blinking digit will occur. To exit to normal mode, hold SET for 3 seconds, or do not press SET for 10 seconds.

The bike computer will cycle through AVG and DST on the display automatically every 5 seconds. The bike computer automatically starts counting the data when you start driving.

AUTO ON / OFF(fig. 5 see the manufacturer's instructions)

If the bike computer is not used for 15 minutes, it will go into sleep mode and output data (ODO) to save battery power.

When you resume driving, the bike computer will turn on automatically.

Low battery indication
1. When the battery is almost empty, the battery symbol appears.

2. Replace the battery with a new one within a few days, otherwise all data may be lost.

Battery Replacement
1. All data will be deleted when the battery is replaced.
2. Insert a new CR2032 battery into the compartment on the back of the cycling computer with the positive (+) terminal facing towards the battery compartment cover (see manufacturer's instructions for illustration 1).

Precautionary measures
1. The cycling computer can be used in the rain, but should not be used underwater.
2. Do not leave the main unit in direct sunlight when not in use.
3. Do not disassemble the main unit or its accessories.
4. Check the position of the sensor and magnet periodically.
5. Periodically clean the table contacts and the contacts on the bottom of the main unit.
6. Do not use thinner, alcohol or benzine to clean the main unit or its accessories when they get dirty.
7. Be careful when using the cycling computer while riding.

Manufacturing and material defects are warranted for one year from the date of purchase.

2.1. Before adjusting, you must correctly measure the circumference of the bicycle wheel. This is the main parameter that affects the accuracy of the computer (speed, distance traveled).
You can do it yourself:
Method # 1. Position the front wheel of your bike so that the camera valve (where the bike pump is connected) is perpendicular to the ground. Make a mark on the asphalt exactly opposite the valve. Roll your bike forward or backward until the wheel completes one full revolution. Make a second mark on the pavement opposite the valve when it is perpendicular. Measure in millimeters the distance between the marks - this is the circumference of your bike's wheel.
Method number 2. On each bicycle tire (tire), the manufacturer indicates its diameter in inches or, less often, in millimeters. Below is a table of bicycle tire circumference according to size. The tabulated lengths may differ slightly from the real ones, since the tire pressure affects the diameter (and the distance traveled) of the wheel.

2.2. Before starting to use a new cycling computer or after replacing the battery for a FULL data reset, press the "Reset" button (1) (Fig. 1).
2.3. After using the Reset button, a test of all display segments will begin. Check if all numbers and letters are displayed correctly on the LCD screen (Fig. 2).
2.4. Press the button (2) "Mode" (Fig. 1) to stop the screen test. A blinking "KM / h" overhead and the value "s2155" will appear on the screen (Fig. 2).
2.5. Pressing the "Mode" button (2) select the desired speed measurement method: "KM / h" (km / h) or "M / h" (mph). Each press of "Mode" will toggle the value between "KM / h" and "M / h".
Attention. If you do not press "Mode" for 30 seconds, the bike computer will automatically exit the setup mode. To return to the setting, press and hold the Mode button for 6 seconds.
2.6. Press and hold the "Mode" button for 3 seconds - until the number 2 starts blinking in the value "s2155". The computer will switch to the mode of entering the circumference in millimeters (see p.2.1.). The initial value (default) is 2,155 mm. for 28 ″ wheels. By quickly pressing the "Mode" button, set the value of the first digit. It will blink and change its value from 0 to 3 each time it is pressed. To enter the next digit, hold down the "Mode" button for 4 seconds. Subsequent digits can change their value from 0 to 9. To save the entered values, press and hold the "Mode" button for 6 seconds or more.

6. Functions of the buttons of the cycling computer and typical operations

AUTOMATIC START / STOP
After starting the movement, the computer automatically starts calculating SPD, DST, ODO, AVG, MAX, TM, TTM, SPEED PASER and stops automatically when stopped.

In order for the battery to last longer, the computer automatically turns off if it is not used for more than 10 minutes. In this state, the "clock" / CLK mode is working. The computer is also automatically turned on when the bike starts to move or when the "Mode" button is pressed.

MODE BUTTON
A short press on the "Mode" button (2) allows you to switch from one function screen to another (Fig. 3).

FULL DATA RESET
The Reset button (1) (Fig. 1) is used to start the cycling computer or when the computer starts to display incorrect readings. Pressing this button deletes all stored information.

PARTIAL DATA RESET
To partially reset the stored information, press and hold the "Mode" button for 3 seconds. This operation clears the following values: DST, AVG, MAX, TM. This operation cannot reset ODO, CLK, TTM values.

CHANGE OF SPEED MEASUREMENT PARAMETERS
Select any of the computer operating modes, except CLK.
Press and hold the "Mode" button for 6 seconds (Fig. 4). Enter the new wheel circumference by following steps 2.5 and 2.6 to set up the bike computer.

Although I planned to get hold of a bike computer, I didn’t bother to buy it in a year, I got by with a phone with GPS. Now I accidentally bought it, and decided to write a review for you, well, and a little for myself, so as not to read the instructions once again ...

The bike computer came without a track by a simple parcel, the declared price on the postal package is $ 2, inside the package there is a branded box with a window from which the "computer" itself is visible (not visible in the photo, but the screen has a protective film):


under it is a little white box, in which:
- instruction;
- a cheap magnet with a knitting needle;
- 6 black screeds;
- wiring, on one side of which there is a reed switch, on the other - a bicycle computer mount.
No dangling, like an enema, but it is reliably filled with black glue, probably this is the modern epoxy.


The bike computer mount can be positioned vertically or horizontally, but on the back side (where screws ) double-sided tape is already glued, if you (like me) want to attach it to the steering wheel, you will first have to peel off this tape. I would rate its quality as low, but there is no need for glue - this tape can be replaced with a piece of rubber.

well, if later we want to turn the mount, we will have to remove the ties, peel off the tape from the bike, from the mount to get to screws !

Unscrew screws , turn the mount 90 degrees and "snap" it to the holes:

It is removed with a slight upward movement with a simultaneous light pressure on the pipette below.

The sensor is symmetrical, maybe you know where it is in front, where is the rear, but I attached the forks in front, so that if it accidentally touches the magnet when moving the bike forward, it receives less damage. There is also double-sided thick tape there, but I have not yet glued it, because may need to be rearranged.

The battery is not included in the package - it's good: the price is lower and a new battery will often be better than the stock one. At worst, you can pull it out of the motherboard, I pulled it out of the almost unused flasher bought a year ago into the knitting needles - for the first time that's enough, the backlight is working and the indicator of the dead battery is not on yet.
When connecting it, I slightly bent the side contact - just in case for better grip.

More detailed description functions can be found in the instructions, I will describe what I learned and, perhaps, will supplement as I study.

The buttons are labeled from left to right: UP, MODE, SET.

The MODE button, when pressed briefly, switches between three display modes:
- main (DISPLAY);
- (INQUIRE);
- (Up & DOWN).

Long pressing the SET button from the first two modes will allow us to set the initial values ​​and settings.
You can change the values ​​using the UP button in a circle, and switch between the changed values ​​with the SET button. You can exhibit:
- units temperature(my sample measures the temperature with an error of about +3: at 4 degrees it shows 7),
- units time,
- current time,
- wheel circumference (CIRC) - according to the table, depending on the diameter of the wheel and the thickness of the tire (for my 26 "wheels and 1.5" semi-slick - this is 198.5),
- units distance,
- initial value distance traveled(ODO),
- initial value total driving time(RAT).

As you can see, this device measures the temperature (from -10 to +50 Celsius or Fahrenheit equiv., Sorry, without the possibility of calibration). If you do not ride or press any buttons, the cycling computer goes into "standby mode" and displays the time.

The backlight turns on when you press the buttons in the dark (you see, there is a light sensor) or when you press the MODE button for 3 seconds, then it goes out; if you hold it down for 5 seconds, the backlight will not go out until you hold down the MODE button again for 5 seconds.

A short press of the SET button from the first two modes will show us the stopwatch instead of the time on the second line. Start / pause - UP button, reset - SET, MODE button will hide the stopwatch, but will not stop it and you can return to it in bulk. If you remove from the base (do not ride) in stopwatch mode and do not press any buttons, the cycling computer will enter "standby mode" with the stopwatch displayed.

Also, there are functions for measuring the distance and time "in one direction" and "in the other", they are presented in the third mode, they can be reset by long pressing the UP button, while the total driving time (RAT), total mileage (ODO) and the current time are not reset.

And this is only part of the instructions.
