Results of basketball matches of the Olympics

At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, there will be two sets of medals: in men's and women's basketball. 12 teams will take part in each discipline.

Preliminary selection of teams took place during 2015. Participants in the qualifying tournament are almost all countries of the world. Championships and competitions, the winners of which were able to qualify for the Olympic qualifying tournament:

The Olympic qualifying tournament is held in France from 13 to 19 June 2016.

The Olympics assumes that teams will play until they win. If the result is a draw, the teams will be given a 5-minute overtime - additional time that will help determine the winner. Overtime will continue until one of the teams scores the winning goal.

Both men's and women's teams are divided into six groups (baskets). The distribution took place by drawing lots. It took place on March 11, 2016 at the headquarters of the Basketball Federation in Geneva (Switzerland).

Men's Basketball:

After the baskets, countries are divided into two groups.

Group A, men: USA, Venezuela, China, Australia, 2 unknown participants.
Group B, men: Argentina, Spain, Brazil, Lithuania, Nigeria, 1 unknown participant.
Group A, women: Japan, Brazil, Australia, 3 unknown participants.
Group B, women: Canada, USA, Senegal, Serbia, 2 unknown participants.

Each team has 12 participants. Five of them play on the field, the rest wait their turn on the bench.

Basketball competition calendar

The basketball competition takes place in the Barra da Tijuca area.

The basketball championship will take place from August 6 to August 21. The competition will be held in the same way as it was during the Summer Olympics in London in 2012. Each team will play everyone else from their group. Two points for a win and one point for a loss.

The total points will then be calculated, after which the top four teams will advance to the knockout stage (quarter-finals). After this, the semi-finals will take place, the winners of which will compete for gold, and the losers for bronze.
