The kettlebell lifting program also includes power juggling, where not only men and women, but also boys and girls take part.

Men and women at competitions are divided into weight categories. Men and boys perform a juggling program with a weight of 12-16 kg, depending on age, and women and girls with a weight of 8 kg.

Equipment for kettlebell lifting

Sports equipment plays an important role in preparing for and performing in competitions. Proper clothing and shoes reduce the possibility of injury to zero and also make it easier and safer to perform exercises. Mandatory equipment attributes approved by the rules of kettlebell lifting:

  • Shoes – weight shoes. Special shoes for weightlifters also came into weightlifting. The barbells are made of thick leather with lacing along the entire length, capable of fixing ankle joint in a stationary position, avoiding dislocations. There is also a 2 cm heel.

  • Weightlifting belt. A wide leather belt (no more than 12 cm wide) can fix lumbar region spine and avoid injury and deflection in the lower back.

  • T-shirt and bike shorts. The shirt should not cover the elbow joints, so the sleeve should be 10 cm above the elbow (according to the rules of kettlebell lifting). Bicycle shorts should also allow you to view the fixation of the knee joints.

  • Valentin Dikul. Soviet and Russian circus performer.
  • Sergei Rachinsky. Honored Master of Sports of Russia, Honored Trainer of Russia in kettlebell lifting. Record holder of the Guinness Book of Records.
  • Evgeny Lopatin. Honored Master of Sports of the USSR. Silver medalist Olympic Games in 1952.
  • They asked me to tell you a little about what they are all about. I'll try to tell you the most basic information. Maybe someone from the fitness category, which we all mostly do, will want to switch to kettlebells as a sports discipline.

    Exercises

In kettlebell lifting competitions, 3 exercises are performed - the snatch, the clean and jerk and the long cycle clean and jerk. As a rule, the long cycle clean and jerk is carried out as a separate event. Thus, the most common type of competition is the snatch + clean and jerk. This is called biathlon. Women don’t do the clean and jerk and usually don’t even train. The only thing left for them is a jerk.

    Girls don't do that :)

    Rules

10 minutes are allocated for each exercise. During this time, you need to do as many repetitions as possible. The clean and jerk is done with 2 weights, the snatch with one. There is quite a long time between the snatch and the clean and jerk because the participants perform the clean and jerk first, then wait for all the athletes to do it, and only then the snatch phase begins.

According to my observations at the Moscow Cup, it turned out that about half of the participants did not use all 10 minutes for the snatch and dropped out earlier due to fatigue.

    Process

To participate in competitions you need insurance in case something goes wrong. It is inexpensive and can be done for a year. The policy is called “Sports”, I made it for 225 rubles. Among the injuries that occurred at these competitions were torn calluses and nails. The latter happens in the clean and jerk with two weights, when two weights are lowered onto the chest and if you place your fingers incorrectly, then they just fall between two 32-kg weights, which are lowered very quickly.

    A doctor is on duty

Before the start of the competition, participants arrive early, register and weigh in. Then everyone is divided into groups of 6 people. This is exactly how many platforms stand in front of the judges. Groups are formed by weight categories - “heavy” and “light” are not placed at the same time. One place is often left for an open platform, which I will discuss below. Competitions begin with the lightest weight categories and end with the heaviest. Before going on the platform, everyone is given time to warm up.

    Warm-up behind the screen

A judge sits in front of each participant, counts the repetitions and makes sure that there are no violations. The participant himself sees his repetitions on the scoreboard of the judge’s table. For example, of the violations in the snatch that could result in exclusion from the competition, the following are not allowed:
. Do not touch the body with your free hand
. You can only do one kettlebell interception
. You can’t do a swing with a kettlebell if suddenly you don’t have enough strength for a jerk - every repetition should be a jerk

    Open platform

An open platform gives almost anyone a chance to compete. If you do not feel the strength to compete with 32 kettlebells (and men only compete with this) or with 24 kg for women, then you can stand on the platform next to the competitors, but compete not with them, but with yourself. For example, to receive a discharge. So, to obtain adult categories 1, 2 and 3, for men it is necessary to fulfill the standard with 24 kg of weights, for women - 16 kg. If anyone wants to aim for KMS and higher, then there are only 32 kg for men and 24 kg for women.

The man on the left performs on an open platform - he has a weight of 24 kg, the rest have 32 kg.

    Standards and categories

In 2014, new standards were introduced. Points in biathlon are calculated as follows: for each push you get one point, for each snatch - half a point.

I couldn’t find any updated standards on the websites of kettlebell federations - I’m giving a link to the previous ones that were in force until 2013. The new standards will be slightly higher than the previous ones.

There are many weight categories in kettlebell lifting, so based on the results of the performances, there are quite a lot of gold medalists - each in their own category. Accordingly, also for silver and bronze. The gradation occurs every 5 kg: 58-63, 63-68, 68-73 and so on up to 105.

There are also junior categories (up to 22 years old). And, for example, it may turn out that a junior competes with everyone else and takes, say, 5th place. But, since there is also a separate age category for him, he can become a champion in it if the other juniors perform even worse.

The program of competitions in traditional extreme strength disciplines necessarily includes lifting and presses of the world-famous Dikul kettlebell. According to various sources, the weight of this weight ranges from 80 to 85 kg. It is considered personal, since its creator is the famous Russian healer, academician Valentin Ivanovich Dikul.

At the competitions, Dikul's weight weighing 82 kg is cast. They paint it gold to emphasize its value for athletes and strongmen. Few powerlifters can lift it with one arm, let alone press it multiple times.

    A little history

The boy Valentin Dikul was born in Kaunas, Lithuanian SSR. This happened on April 3, 1948. He did not know his father, and lost his mother at the age of 7. The boy was raised by his grandmother, who later gave him up to an orphanage. From a young age, Valentin fell in love with the circus, helped prepare circus performances, and cleaned the arena after performances. From the age of ten, watching acrobats and gymnasts, I fell in love strength exercises. Soon he happily got involved in the work and began lifting weights and balls, doing acrobatics and gymnastics.

Fate smiled at him, and, seeing the teenager’s extraordinary desire for the circus, he was taken into a troupe of circus performers as an aerialist. But soon it happened terrible tragedy. In 1962, Valentin Dikul became the victim of an accident during a performance in Kaunas. During a speech at high altitude A steel crossbar breaks at the Sports Palace. From a height of 13 meters, the fall was so rapid that, even knowing how to brace himself in case of a fall, the athlete simply did not have time to do it.

    A grueling fight against illness

When falling, Valentin receives serious injury skull, spine and ten fractures of other bones. A week in intensive care and three months of fighting for life in the hospital did not yield positive results. All the doctors predicted that the young patient would spend the remaining years of his life in wheelchair. They just didn’t take into account the guy’s extreme desire to get back on his feet and the willpower of the guy.

It started in the hospital grueling workouts. Studying literature on anatomy and biomechanics, he came up with exercises to develop leg muscles, using first ropes and then block structures with weights collected by friends.

Six for long years Valentin Dikul's persistence did not bring visible results. But then he felt life in his legs. This forced him to triple his efforts and after 7 months of intense training, his legs began to work. Since then, he not only got up and walked, but also, thanks to work and lifting weights, became the strongest athlete.

From the moment Dikul stood on his feet, his career as a healer began. He helped not only himself to stand firmly on his feet, but also gave thousands of sick and crippled people hope for recovery. He created a set of exercises to restore the mobility of muscles and joints.

    Sports career

The love for the circus lived in Dikul’s soul throughout the forced stop. After rehabilitation, getting back on his feet, he returns to the arena, but as a power juggler. Performances involving tossing balls weighing 45 kg, lifting barbells, people and cars were watched by millions of people around the world. But Dikul’s invented weight, weighing 80 kg, is still considered unique.

His ability to throw a weight with one hand was included in the Guinness Book of Records. Since then, many powerlifting competitions have included lifting and benching such an unusual weight in their program. It is considered aerobatics to do snatches with a golden weight. Lifting it is included in the traditional disciplines of extreme power.

How much does Dikul's weight weigh?

In Moscow, every season on the birthday of Valentin Ivanovich Dikul, namely April 3, the tournament “The Most strong man"The competition program includes lifting the famous personalized weight, which the folk healer used throughout his 48 years of work in the circus. The weight of the weight is 80 kg.

The Federation of the Strongest Athletes of Russia included this apparatus in strongman competitions. The task must be completed in the following way: You only need to lift the weight up with one hand. The lift is performed overhead using the push, press or push technique. The movement is performed only in a long cycle (from the floor with one hand to the chest, then up).

The winner of the competition is the one who raised it the most times. But strongmen are not always able to lift such a weight at least once.

    Russian bogatyrs

Kettlebell lifting has been popular in Rus' for a long time. Such celebrities as writer Leo Tolstoy and wrestler Ivan Poddubny loved to lift weights. But until the 19th century it was not considered a sport. It was entertainment and a test of men's endurance at fairs and circus performances. Such famous wrestlers of the past as Poddubny constantly performed gymnastics using weights. From such exercises the whole

Vladislav Kraevsky lifted 32-kilogram weights 10 times, although he was already 60 years old. He is considered the creator of the St. Petersburg circle of athletic enthusiasts. The first book on learning to work with weights also belongs to the Russian Ivan Lebedev. His book, A Guide to Developing Strength with Heavy Weights, was written in 1916. And his student wrote a textbook for athletes called “Kettlebell lifting” in 1939.

Weightlifting athletes lift weights of 8, 16, 32 kg. And only now exercises with Dikul weights weighing 80 kg have begun to be used in strongman competitions.
