At the European Athletics Championships. Lasickine humiliated everyone again, but was not satisfied

The 24th European Athletics Championships will be held from 6 to 12 August 2018 at Olympic Stadium in Berlin. For the third time in history, the competition will be held in Germany, and for the first time in the country's capital. Athletes who have completed the necessary qualification requirements and standards within the established time frame will be allowed to participate. Over the course of six days, 48 sets of medals will be played.

The European Athletics Championships will be part of the first ever unified European Athletics Championships. summer species sports The competition will take place from August 2 to 12 in Berlin and Glasgow, UK. In 2018, this multi-sport event will include seven European Championships

A women's program was added to the championship program in 2018. race walking at 50 km. Thus, as previously at the 2017 World Championships, at the European continental championship for the first time equality was achieved between women's and men's disciplines (24 each).

As at the previous championship in 2016, the Russian team will not participate in the competition. The suspension of Russian track and field athletes from international competitions, initiated by the IAAF in November 2015 in connection with doping scandal, was once again upheld on July 27, 2018. At the same time, the International Federation during 2018 allowed several dozen Russian athletes to competitions abroad, where they can perform as neutral athletes. At least 30 of them were allowed by the organizers to participate in the European Championship.

There is one day left in the European Championship program. Belarusian athletes reach the finish line with five medals. Maxim Nedosekov won silver the day before, but his performance was not the only result of the day in Berlin.

Silver like gold

Considering the background of Maxim Nedosekov’s performance in the European Championship finals, the victory he won gold award can be considered a victory. Problems with digestion forced the athlete to perform not in the best condition, but even so, Maxim soared very high. 2.33 – repeating personal best. At the last championship, the victorious Italian Gianmarco Tamberi showed a centimeter worse. This time Tamberi did not look very convincing. Only 2.28, despite the fact that this was the best result of this season. But the German Mateusz Przybilko spread his wings.

The guy rode to a personal best of 2.35 without a single misfire and, it seems, even in perfect shape It would not be easy for Nedosekov to fight him. Although it is real.

Yes, 2.33 is already cool for a Belarusian. But his technique and attitude proved time after time: Maxim can fly much higher. Speaking of the mood: twice during the final – at a height of 2.28 and after all the contenders took 2.31 – the guy had to get out of a very difficult psychological situation, and Nedosekov coped with the task masterfully.

Now it remains to remember that Maxim is only 20 years old. Pshibilko and Tamberi are 6 years older, and Ilya Ivanyuk from Russia, who became third, is five years older. The same age as Nedosequoa, Alperin Aset from Turkey barely cleared 2.24... I don’t want to think about where Maxim might jump in 5 years. So as not to jinx it.

Nastin is underflight

Anastasia Mironchik-Ivanova could also have won a medal. These are not advances - sheer mathematics. And psychology. At the first start after returning to the sector - a match meeting at the Dynamo stadium - the jumper flew 6.77. Malaika Mihambo, who won the European champion title the day before and competes under the German flag, scored 2 centimeters worse. Nastya, it seemed, did not have enough practice. Her season began, consider it, in the middle, and training, no matter how you simulate combat conditions, can hardly replace real competition in the sector. In Berlin, the fate of the awards was decided in the final attempt.

No one was able to jump over Mihambo (although 6.75 meters is a frankly weak result), but it was in the final entry into the sector that Marina Bekh from Ukraine and Shara Proctor from Great Britain showed their best results. For Nastya, such a defining attempt could have been her fifth. I invested, flew and landed somewhere near the pedestal, but my hope was dashed by a spade. The final attempt also ended with a “cross”, however, with a spades of only 1.6 centimeters and a flight to the medal area. It is possible that if Mironchik-Ivanova had started jumping in the spring, it would have been easier for her to cope with the emotions and literally seething energy inside in Berlin. And so, the main conclusion of the European Championship for her can be considered a statement of the fact that against the backdrop of her European competitors the Belarusian still looks strong. With the discount, however, that suddenly Ivana Shpanovich, who had withdrawn from the competition, was not among the competitors, and in general the results turned out to be “warm-up”. A year later, at the World Championships in Doha, everything will be more serious, but Nastya will probably go there even stronger.

Passing

Unlike the first day of the European Championship, which brought us a bronze medal from Dmitry Dubin, the weather clearly spoiled the walkers who set out to conquer the 20-kilometer distance. The start, however, was delayed, but we walked without the scorching sun, with a comfortable temperature, and even refreshed ourselves with a little rain literally before the finish. The most interesting thing is that, had it been otherwise, the final places of the Belarusians could have been higher than the 17th position of Victoria Roshchupkina (Alexander Lyakhovich finished the race in 18th). But hardly pedestal. The entire top three men's medalists, led by Spaniard Alvaro Martinov, finished in an hour and 21 minutes with Lyakhovich's personal record of 1:21.12. It would have been hotter - you could have tried to endure it, but it turned out to be difficult to compete in pure speed.

Roshchupkina was completely perplexed about her condition and result. Although 1:33.12 is not so slower than that recorded by the athlete on team championship in walking I Tianjin personal best. If I repeated those 1:31.22, I would be in the top ten. Better, but from medals (and, especially, first place new record European Championships of Spain's Maria Perez - 1:26.36) is still too far. Vika is 23 years old. Considering that walking is not the “youngest” form of athletics, there is still time to accelerate.

The 2018 European Championships ended in Berlin. Let's sum it up.

Vladimir IVANOV
from Berlin

For Russia the tournament turned out to be a mess. It doesn’t work out somehow Russian light athletics in Berlin. Nine years ago, the World Championships were held here, which were remembered mainly for failures: then for the first time in my career, I failed, I became fourth when I was in excellent shape, and three gold medals of the walkers were canceled a few years later due to doping violations.

Misfires of Leaders

This time, everything somehow went wrong. The sad news began even before the start of the tournament. The favorite to win at the height of the 20-year-old was suspended almost on the eve of the departure due to three flags. This immediately set an unimportant tone.

Unexpectedly, Angelika Sidorova flew past the pedestal. And even if there was a conditional bronze, she would hardly be happy. The athlete came here to fight for victory.

He openly ignored the results of the photo finish. These 13.17 are like betrayal for him. With this result, he didn’t care whether it was first place or fifth. He thought about other timelines. But the winner, Pascal-Martino Lagarde, cried at the award ceremony, burying his face in Shubenkov’s shoulder.

And even our only champion of Berlin did not feel much joy from her next victory. Which was also harder for her than expected. The next day she thawed out, but still she will hardly remember this start with delight.

BLOOMED APPLICATION

If the leaders were chattering so much, what can we say about the rest. 10 out of 29 Russians who arrived did not even qualify. Yana Smerdova was disqualified from walking for three violations. Evgeny Rybakov was 20th in the 10,000 m.

Only seven can take the current championship to their advantage. Without question - Timur Morgunov. Maria Lasitskene. The decathlete, who, although he didn’t reach his personal best, gave himself without reserve. Ilya Ivanyuk, who arrived without a coach, but, despite the stressful situation, for the first time in his life overcame 2.31 m. Which is 52 cm higher than his height. Rinas Akhmadeev, who dropped as much as 11 seconds from his 5000m personal best. 20-year-old Vasily Mizinov, who supported the prestige of Russian walking at the debut start of this level. And Polina Miller, who at the age of 18 was not afraid of a 50,000-seat stadium - and set another personal record for 400 m. She is now a leader European season for athletes under 20 years old.

All this is not enough to call the performance a success. If London 2017 was 19 Russian athletes, but they won six medals, then 29 of our athletes came to Berlin 2018, and there were again six prize places. And last year there was a World Championship, and this year there was a European Championship. It's a huge difference.

SHUBENKOV AND BOUQUET LASITSKENE

At the same time, there are no questions regarding the atmosphere in the team. Our team is not even listed in the team competition on the official website. The organizers explain this by saying that the ANA countries are not. The Russians here are like Tom Hanks in the movie "The Terminal". In fact, there is, according to the documents - not quite.

However, this does not demoralize our people; on the contrary, they still hold on to each other more tightly. The athletes supported each other on social networks, and those who had already performed came to the stadium to cheer. You should have seen how Lasitskene shouted during the award ceremony for Shubenkov. Even among fans of Sergei Lazarev, you can hardly find such emotions when your idol appears. Sergei waved his arms, danced, jumped, begged for a bouquet and single-handedly tried to shout over a crowd of several hundred people. It was very fun and kind.

Such unity sets the mood for positivity. Another thing is that in sports highest achievements This is not enough. Our team needs to bring back the winning spirit. In this sense, the medal of 21-year-old Timur Morgunov in the pole vault inspires optimism. For the athlete from Chelyabinsk, the current European Championship is only the second foreign start in his life. But how desperately he fought! His 6m is a space jump for Russian athletics.

NEW STARS

Berlin gave a lot interesting results, but the main discovery was 17-year-old Jacob Ingebrigtsen. A white Norwegian became the youngest runner in history to win the European Championships. Jacob won the 1500m with 3:38.10. At the same time, this season Ingebrigtsen ran 3:31.18. And a couple of days later, the Norwegian also took gold in the 5000 m. 13.17.06 for a person who, by law, is not yet allowed to drive a car, this is powerful.

It is curious that at the recent Junior World Championships he was left without gold - the Kenyans became winners at both distances. However, serious marketers are already working on Ingebrigtsen. He is positioned as the white man who will be able to break the dominance of Africans in the middle races. After the end of Usain Bolt's career, the world Athletics needs a new superstar. Maybe an unusual Norwegian will be able to take the place of the departed king?

Another contender is Swede Armand Duplantis. The 18-year-old pole vaulter is incredibly good. In terms of results, even preferable to the Norwegian. His fantastic 6.05 m is the second best result in world history. Only Sergei Bubka was higher.

ALL RUSSIAN MEDALS IN BERLIN

MEDAL TABLE OF THE EUROPEAN ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP

The European Summer Sports Championships are divided into clusters. It will take place in Berlin. IN neutral status 30 Russian athletes will perform. Why in neutral - we explain here. Well, you will learn about our main medal hopes right now.

Maria Lasitskene (25 years old), high jump. Two-time world champion, two-time world indoor champion. It would take a long time to list her achievements. In short, the best athlete in the world right now.

Between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2018, Lasitskene won 45 tournaments in a row. The series was interrupted on July 13, 2018 at a run-of-the-mill start in Rabat, where Masha finished third.

Everyone needs a reboot. And after just 6 days she won the third title of Russian champion. Today Maria Lasitskene is the owner best result seasons in the world (2.04 m). We only expect gold from her in Berlin.

Qualification for the women's high jump will begin on August 8 at 6:25 p.m., with the final starting on August 10 at 7:20 p.m.

Sergey Shubenkov (27 years old), 110 m s/b. World champion, two-time European champion.

Shubenkov is the only sprinter in the history of Soviet and Russian men's athletics to win a World Championship medal in the 110-meter hurdles. Now he has the best season result in the world (12.92 seconds), so the upcoming tournament is a chance to add to his collection of victories.

Sergey, naturally, is in the top 12 of the European rankings for the season sprint distances, so he misses the first round race. He will start with the semi-finals (August 10, 20:10). The final will take place on the same day at 22:35.

Anzhelika Sidorova (27 years old), pole vaulting. World Championship medalist, World Indoor Championships medalist, European champion.

After Elena Isinbaeva left the sport, Anzhelika Sidorova took leading roles in the team, taking bronze at the European Indoor Championships in 2013. Within five next years the results only got better. At the last stage of the Diamond League in Monaco, Angelica took first place with a cool result (4.85 m), which makes the athlete the main favorite of the upcoming tournament.

The qualifying round for the pole vault starts on August 7 at 7:05 p.m., and the final begins on August 9 at 7:15 p.m.

Timofey Chaly (24 years old), 400 m s/b. European champion among juniors.

At the end of 2013, he became the most progressive athlete in Russia, rightfully considered a rising star. At the Russian Championships held in Kazan, he confidently won his race. Chaly does not yet have international titles at the adult level, so the upcoming European Championship could be a breakthrough. Why not?

Like Sergei Shubenkov, Timofey Chaly is in the top 12 of the European rankings for the season in sprint distances, and he also misses the first round race. The semi-final will take place on August 7 at 20:55. The final will begin on August 9 at 21:15.

Polina Miller (18 years old), 400 m. Champion of Russia.

The youngest hope of Russia is the starlet from Barnaul, Polina Miller. She is only 18 years old, but she has just won the Russian championship in Kazan, leaving behind many rivals with name and experience. Miller recently returned from the World Junior Championships, and now she will compete at the adult European Championships! This is your chance to shine. And yes, you have no right to pass by her Instagram.
