Is it possible to drink water after prakshalana? How to eat after the Shank-Prakshalana procedure. And the last exercise - sitting crunches

Shank Prakshalana or “Conch shell gesture” - so beautifully called complete colon rinse with salt water, which has been practiced by yogis since ancient times.

Unlike enema cleansing, which cleanses only the large intestine, Shank Prakshalana also cleanses the small intestine. After such cleansing, a surge of vital energy and health is felt.

The procedure is simple and accessible to everyone. It consists of the following: you need drink salted water and do special exercises until the water comes out clear.

The procedure usually takes about 1 - 1.5 hours. It is better to perform it in the morning, on an empty stomach, on a free day.

Preparing for cleaning

Prepare salted water (10 to 14 glasses, depending on intestinal contamination). Take salt at the rate of 9 grams per 1 liter (1 teaspoon with a small slide). This is approximately the concentration of salt in blood plasma.

The water must be salty, because otherwise, it is absorbed through the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract and excreted through the kidneys.

Note: For some reason, it is often suggested to measure salt to prepare a solution using tablespoons. Don't get confused with the salt concentration; 1 level tablespoon contains 25 grams of salt. Taking that much for 1 liter of water is too much. Don't overdo it with salt.

The water should be heated to body temperature. The procedure is recommended to be carried out after enema cleansing.

Advice for those who don't like enemas: take a mild laxative at night. Then there will be no problems when performing intestinal lavage.

Scheme for performing the colon cleansing procedure Shank Prakshalana

  1. Drink a glass of salted water.
  2. Immediately perform special exercises that force water to move into the intestines without causing nausea.
  3. Next, drink a glass of salt water again and perform a series of exercises.
Continue this way until you drink 6 glasses of water. Usually, after such an amount of water, sewage evacuation occurs.
If this does not happen within 5-10 minutes, repeat the exercises without drinking more water.
If, as before, there is no evacuation, you need to activate the siphon using an enema.
After the first evacuation of the intestinal contents, further lavage occurs without problems.
To prevent irritation caused by salt, it is recommended that after each visit to the toilet, rinse the anus with warm water, dry it and lubricate it with vegetable oil.
  4. After the first evacuation, you need to drink a glass of water again and perform a series of exercises.

When you see that the water comes out clean enough, you should stop the procedure. You go to the toilet a few more times.

Then, in order to empty the stomach and turn off the siphon after Shank Prakshalans, yoga induces vomiting (Vamana-Dhouti). To do this, you can drink 3 glasses of pure unsalted water and induce vomiting.

Exercise 1

Initial position: standing, back straight, legs slightly apart, palms facing up, fingers intertwined, breathing freely.
First lean to the left, then, without pausing, straighten up and lean to the right. Try not to twist your upper torso. Repeat the exercise 4 times, i.e. 8 tilts, alternately left and right.

This exercise will take approximately 10 seconds. Bending forces the pylorus of the stomach to open, and with each movement, some of the water will penetrate from the stomach into the intestines.

Exercise 2

Initial position the same. Bend your left arm so that your thumb and index finger touch your right collarbone, and extend your right arm horizontally. Turn your torso to the right, pointing your outstretched arm as far back as possible, while looking at your fingertips. Then, without stopping, return to the starting position, change hands and twist in the other direction. Repeat the exercise 4 times too.

These movement causes water to move through the small intestine.

Exercise 3

Initial position: Lie down on the floor. Only the palms of the hands and big toes touch the floor, therefore, keep the hips above the floor. It is important that the feet are slightly apart (about 30 centimeters). Rotate your torso and head until you see the opposite heel, without delay, return to the starting position and do the same in the other direction. Repeat the exercise 4 times. The exercise will take 10 - 15 seconds.

Exercise 4

Starting position: squat down, feet slightly apart (about 30 centimeters), with the heels on the outer side of the thighs, and not under the buttocks, knees also slightly apart, palms on the knees.

Rotate your torso and move your left knee to the floor in front of your right foot. The palms alternately push the right thigh to the left side and the left thigh to the right side so as to press the thigh on the large intestine, pressing half of the abdomen. Look behind you. This will increase the twisting of the torso and the pressure on the abdomen.

For this exercise, you need to start squeezing the right side of your abdomen first. Repeat the exercise 4 times. The duration of the exercise is about 15 seconds.

These movements water reaching the end of the small intestine, propelled through the large intestine.

Exercise 4 is the most difficult of the entire series. For diseases of the knee joints, you can perform a lighter version of the exercise.

Exercise 4 (light)

Initial position: Sit on the floor, bend one knee, with your foot placed on the inside of your thigh. The shoulder is directed as far as possible towards the bent knee, the torso is slightly tilted back. The hands rest on the bent knee, which serves as a lever to twist the torso and press the thigh to the lower abdomen.

Cases of failure

If you drink 4 glasses of water and feel full to the point of nausea, this means that the pylorus of the stomach has not opened and the contents of the stomach are not passing into the intestines in a normal way. Without drinking more water, perform the series of exercises 2 to 3 more times. The disappearance of nausea will indicate that the pylorus of the stomach has opened. After this, there will be no more difficulties, and the process can continue.

If it was not possible to activate the siphon (sometimes a gas plug from fermentation products can prevent this), it is enough to press on the stomach with your hands or do a shoulder stand (yogi exercise “Sarvangasana”) along with performing the series of exercises described above.

In the worst case scenario, if the water still does not leave the stomach, all that remains is to induce vomiting by tickling the base of the tongue with two fingers. Relief will come immediately. After exercise, you need to rest and avoid fasting.

First meal after Shank Prakshalana

Mandatory after Shank Prakshalana you need to eat no earlier than 30 minutes and no later than 1 hour after the end of the exercises. It is forbidden to leave the digestive tract without food for more than an hour after exercise.

The first food is rice, boiled in water without salt, a little overcooked. Rice can be combined with well-cooked carrots. Along with rice you need to eat 40 grams of butter. Rice can be replaced with oatmeal, wheat cereal, etc.

Warning. Within 24 hours after Shank Prakshalana, it is forbidden to eat yeast bread, drink kefir and milk. You should only eat porridge with water, boiled or stewed vegetables. Raw vegetables and fruits can be consumed the next day. Such nutrition contributes to the revival of normal intestinal microflora.

Drinking after Shank Prakshalana

Consuming salt water will draw some of the fluid from the blood into the intestines due to high osmotic activity. Thus, the microvilli of the small and large intestines are cleansed, because the liquid part of the blood follows in the direction opposite to normal absorption. This is what it's all about uniqueness of Shank Prakshalana.

After exercise you will be naturally thirsty, but do not take any liquid, not even pure water, before your first meal. Then you can drink water or light herbal infusions.

The first bowel movements will appear only after a day. They will be yellow-golden and odorless, like a baby's.

Beneficial Impact

After cleaning the entire digestive tract, you will feel a surge of strength, fresh breath, good sleep, and a refreshed complexion.
At the same time, the liver is toned, which can be seen by the color of the first stool, as well as the pancreas.

The process of absorption of water into the large intestine is possible only from solutions in which the salt concentration does not exceed 0.9%.

If the salt concentration in the solution is 0.9%, then the absorption of water from such a solution into the large intestine will not occur.

When the salt concentration is more than 0.9%, reverse absorption will occur, i.e., water from the internal environment of the body will be absorbed into the lumen of the large intestine.

A simple example. For this reason, sea water with a salt concentration of more than 0.9% cannot quench your thirst and, on the contrary, if you try to drink such water, you can get dehydrated.

We looked at why such a cleansing as Shank Prakshalana is needed. Today we will talk about how to carry it out correctly and safely at home.

How often should Shank Prakshalana be performed?

Prakshalana is done either as needed or as planned. If at your age you have never done Prakshalana, then, probably, such a need is already ripe. As for scheduled cleaning, it is enough to do Prakshalana 1-2 times a year, more often it is not necessary.

Diet before Prakshalana

1-2 days before Prakshalana we abstain from protein foods (meat, fish, eggs), exclude alcohol, nicotine and caffeine. The ideal diet is to sit on boiled vegetables, cereals, and rice for two days. This will make cleaning easier.

How long does Prakshalana take and what time is best to do it?

The procedure itself will take no more than 3-4 hours (for the first time due to inexperience, maybe a little longer). However, I would recommend setting aside ONE day for Prakshalana. Let it be a day of complete relaxation - it is better not to plan any active events or meetings. Stay at home, alone with yourself or with loved ones, read a book, relax. Perhaps after the procedure you will feel weak and want to lie down - all these are normal phenomena.

Prakshalana is best performed on an empty stomach, so the optimal time to perform the procedure is in the morning after waking up, around 6-7 am, so that it is completed by noon. Before starting Prakshalana, it is good to do your usual morning hygiene routine and then start.

Place requirements for Prakshalana

Prakshalana should be performed in a secluded and safe place where you will not be disturbed. The ideal option is at home. Of course, you must have unrestricted access to the toilet. In the toilet, you need to prepare fresh water for washing in advance (I strongly do not recommend toilet paper), cream or oil and a towel, so that after each bowel movement you can wash yourself and lubricate the perineum with cream or oil. Otherwise, the saline solution may irritate the area.

Preparation of brine solution

Before starting Prakshalana, you need to prepare a saline solution.

For the solution, it is better to use boiled water, cooled to body temperature. You need the most common salt - without iodine or other additives. It’s better to save sea, Himalayan, rose, with truffle oil and other exotics for a more suitable occasion. Buy the most common salt for 10 rubles - that's what you need.

So, we have water and we have salt, now it is important to mix them correctly. A common mistake made by beginners is to add more salt to the solution than necessary, which ultimately leads to dehydration and headaches.

We don’t need this, so we follow the rule: 1 heaped teaspoon of salt per liter of water. No more and no less.

Experts also advise adding half a teaspoon of magnesium sulfate (you can buy it at a pharmacy) to the first liter of water (only the first!) - it has a laxative and choleretic effect, which supposedly ensures a smooth entry into the process. I myself have never added it - everything went well without it, so it’s at your discretion.

When the solution is ready, you can start!

Step-by-step instructions: exercises for Prakshalana

The scheme is simple: after each glass of salt water we drink, we perform a series of four simple exercises, as described below. The purpose of these exercises is to promote the rapid passage of water through the digestive tract. We don't want to do this all day, do we?

While doing the exercises, we alternately open the sphinxters of the gastrointestinal tract so that water does not linger anywhere and can easily pass to the exit.

So, we drink the first glass and perform a series of four simple exercises:

1. First, we do lateral bends while standing - to the right and left:

2. Then, also in a standing position, we do soft twists in the waist area - to the right and left.

3. We move to a lying position and do the third exercise - smooth twists from the “cobra” position

4. And the last exercise is seated crunches.

Each exercise is performed 8-12 times on each side. The entire series takes from 3 to 5 minutes, depending on the speed of execution.

When we finish the series, we drink the next glass and repeat the exercises again.

It is unlikely that immediately after the first couple of glasses the urge to go to the toilet will appear - this is normal, a little patience.

Usually the first liter (about four glasses) is enough for the process to begin. If everything is going well for you, then just continue to drink water, do exercises and go to the toilet when the urge appears.

After a few more glasses, you may feel that it is no longer necessary to do the exercises - the process follows the established pattern: glass - toilet - glass - toilet.

In this spirit, you continue until the water comes out as clean and clear as the water you drink.

To achieve this, 2-3 liters of water should be enough for the first time. Next times, most likely, you will need less volume and everything will go faster.

If after the first liter there is no stool, drink two more glasses, and do exercises after each. If after this, the urge to go to the toilet does not arise, you need to take a break - you should not drink further water yet. You can just lie on the floor and rest a little, you can massage your stomach in a clockwise direction, you can also do another series of exercises. If all this does not help - there is still no stool, you need to give yourself a small enema - this will start the process.

How to complete Prakshalana correctly?

As soon as the water at the outlet becomes clear, we stop drinking the solution - it’s time to finish! Usually at the final stage the water is clear, but has a distinct yellowish tint caused by the active release of bile from the gallbladder.

Now it is important to close the gastrointestinal sphinxters opened by Prakshalana. To do this, we drink a little fresh water (one glass is enough) and pressing two fingers on the base of the tongue, we cause a gag reflex. A slight urge to vomit is enough to command the body to close the sphinxters.

Most likely, after completing the procedure, you will still have to visit the toilet a couple of times.

Diet after Prakshalana

You must eat within an hour after completing Prakshalana. You need to eat well-cooked rice without salt and spices - add only a tablespoon of butter (or better yet, ghee). The rice will absorb any remaining salt in the digestive tract, and the oil will help lubricate it.

After this 3-4 hours you should not eat anything. You can drink plain water if you feel thirsty.

In the evening of the same day, you can resume eating, but it is very important to follow the correct diet.

The fact is that as a result of Prakshalana, all intestinal microflora is washed away. The formation of new microflora depends on the diet you follow in the first days after Prokshalana. Therefore, we follow approximately the same diet as in preparation for Prakshalana:

We exclude protein foods (meat, fish, eggs, dairy, legumes), exclude alcohol, cigarettes, coffee and tea, confectionery, bread, sugar and all foods that cause fermentation. It is also undesirable to eat raw fruits, vegetables and herbs - it will be difficult for your still weak digestion to cope with them.

It’s probably easier to say what you can eat: you can eat porridge (in water), boiled or stewed vegetables. Starting from the day after Prokshalana, you can add light fermented milk products to your diet.

This light vegetarian diet should be followed for at least a few days, or better yet, a whole week after Prakshalana. This will help populate the intestines with the correct microflora.

After Prokshalana, it is also advised to take a course of eubitics - drugs containing lactic acid and bifidobacteria, for 2-4 weeks. I've never done this myself. So I can't say, it's up to you.

Igor Budnikov, a certified yoga teacher, graduated from MGIMO with honors, leads meditations and “Reboots”.

There is an ancient method of washing and cleansing the entire digestive tract - from the mouth to the anus. Shank Prakshalana translated means “Sink Gesture” because water, passing through the digestive canal, like through a sink, washes away all impurities. Water is absorbed by the mouth, then passes through the stomach, and then with simple movements passes through the entire intestine until it exits it. The exercises continue until the water comes out as clear as it entered.

Beneficial Impact: In addition to the fact that you cleanse the entire digestive canal, you will also experience long-term beneficial effects: fresh breath, good sleep, disappearance of rashes on the face and body. If you eat right, body odors will disappear. At the same time, the liver is toned - this is noticeable by the color of the first stool - and other glands associated with digestion, especially the pancreas. The salty taste in the mouth stimulates the body's calorific and digestive abilities, hence the effect on digestion.

Cases of low-grade diabetes were successfully cured by doctors in Lonavla by performing Shank Prakshalana every two days for 2 months; this was accompanied by an appropriate diet - more natural foods rich in B vitamins, and compliance with the rhythm of the digestive organs.

Contraindications: Persons suffering from stomach ulcer should abstain from Shankh Prakshalana and cure it first. The same applies to persons suffering from acute damage to the digestive tract: dysentery, diarrhea, acute colitis, acute appendicitis, intestinal tuberculosis and cancer.

Preparation: Heating water to body temperature, salted with sea salt at the rate of 5-6 grams per liter, which is approximately the concentration of salt in the blood plasma (a small level tablespoon per liter of water). The water must be sufficiently salty, because without the admixture of sea salt it would be absorbed by osmosis through the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract and excreted as urine, rather than through the anus.

In general, regulate the salt concentration yourself, the main thing is that the body does not absorb water.

Favorable moment: The most favorable moment is the morning, on an empty stomach; the entire flushing, as practice shows, takes an hour and a half, and as you master it - 45-60 minutes.

Here is a diagram of the complete implementation of the passage of water through the digestive canal.

1. Drink a glass of salt water.
2. Immediately perform the prescribed movements.
3. Drink a glass of water and perform a series of movements. While performing these movements, water will slowly pass into the intestines without causing nausea.

Continue alternating between drinking water and moving until you have drunk 6 glasses of water.
At this moment you need to go to the toilet.

Usually the first evacuation occurs almost immediately, the first portion of feces, in the form of feces, will be followed by others, softer ones, and then liquid ones.

If this does not happen immediately or within 5 minutes; you need to repeat the movements without drinking more water, and then return to the toilet: If the expected result does not happen, then you need to initiate evacuation through an enema. As soon as the siphon is activated, that is, as soon as the first bowel movements have flown, the rest will follow automatically.

One tip: after each visit to the toilet and after using regular toilet paper, rinse your anus with warm water, dry it and lubricate it with vegetable oil to prevent irritation caused by salt. Some sensitive people are susceptible to this mild irritation, which is easily preventable.

After this first bowel movement, you need to: drink a glass of water, make movements, then return to the toilet; and every time there will be an evacuation. Continue to consistently drink water, exercise, and go to the toilet; until the water comes out as clean as it entered the body. Depending on the contamination of the intestines, you will need from 10 to 14 glasses, rarely more.

When you are satisfied with the result, that is, when the water coming out of you is clean enough, you should stop the procedure. You go to the toilet several more times over the next period of time. Then you can drink 3 glasses of unsalted water and induce vomiting. This will turn off the siphon and empty the stomach. “According to tradition, yogis always do vomiting (Vamana-Dhauga) after Shank-Prakshalana.

Exercises

Exercises for performing Shank-Prakshalana are presented by Rinad Sultanovich Minvaleev, a researcher at St. Petersburg State University, head of the department of “Traditional and Eastern Health Systems”. (At the end of the video, Rinad performs several more yoga exercises that have nothing to do with Shank Prakshalana)

First movement: Starting position: standing, feet apart about 30 centimeters, fingers intertwined, palms facing up. The back is straight, breathing is normal.

Without turning your upper body, lean first to the left, without pausing in the final position, straighten up and immediately lean to the right. Repeat this double movement 4 times, that is, make 8 tilts, alternately left and right, which will take a total of about 10 seconds.

These movements open the pylorus of the stomach, and with each movement (tilt), part of the water penetrates into the duodenum from the stomach.

Second movement: This movement forces water to move through the small intestines.

The starting position is the same. Extend your right arm horizontally and bend your left arm so that your index finger and thumb touch your right collarbone. Then rotate your torso, pointing your outstretched arm back as far as possible; look at your fingertips. Without stopping at the end of the turn, immediately return to the starting position and turn in the other direction. This double movement must also be repeated 4 times. The total duration of 4 x 2 movements is 10 seconds.

Third movement: Water continues to move into the small intestines thanks to the following movement: perform the snake variation.

Only the big toes and palms of the hands touch the floor, hence keeping the hips off the ground. I will spread your feet about 30 centimeters (this is important). When the position is accepted, turn your head and torso until you can see the opposite heel (that is, if you turn to the right, then you need to look at the left heel), without stopping in the extreme position, return to the starting position and do the same in the other side, repeat 4 times, two movements each. Time – 10-15 seconds.

Fourth movement:“The water that has reached the end of the small intestines must be carried through the large intestines through the 4th and last movement. It is the most complex of the entire series, although it is accessible to anyone, with the exception of persons suffering from knee or meniscus diseases. These people may resort to the option described below.

Initial position:
a) squat down, feet spaced approximately 30 cm apart, with the heels placed on the outer side of the thighs, and not under the seat, hands placed on the knees, which are spaced approximately 30 cm apart;

b) rotate your torso and place your left knee on the floor in front of the opposite foot. The palms alternately push the right thigh towards the left side and the left thigh towards the right side so as to press half of the abdomen with the aim of squeezing only one half of the large intestine. Look behind you to increase the twisting of the torso and apply pressure to the abdomen.

While all the previous exercises started no matter which way, for this exercise you need to start squeezing the right side of the abdomen first. Like all previous movements, it is performed 4 times. The total duration is 15 seconds.

Variation of the 4th movement: This movement originates from the twisted pose (“Ardha Matsyendrasana”, page 139, pose 2). In this case, the foot is simply attached to the inner side of the thigh and does not pass through to the other side. The shoulder is pulled back as far as possible to the bent knee, the torso is slightly tilted back. The hands rest on the bent knee, which serves as a lever to twist the spine and press the thigh to the lower abdomen.

Cases of failure: If, after drinking, for example, 4 glasses, you feel that the contents of the stomach do not pass normally into the intestines and there is a feeling of overfilling, leading to nausea, then this means that the pyloric neck (the valve between the stomach and the duodenum) ) does not open as it should. Repeat the series of exercises 2-3 times without drinking more water. The disappearance of nausea will indicate that the passage is open. Once the siphon is activated, there will be no more difficulties and you can continue the process. But it may happen that for some people a gas lock from fermentation products prevents the siphon from being activated. In this case, it is enough to press the stomach with your hands or do a shoulder stand (“Sarvangasana”) along with 4 other exercises.

In the most unfavorable case, that is, when the water does not leave the stomach at all, you are left with two solutions: vomit by tickling the base of the tongue with two fingers of your right hand so that the gag reflex occurs. The relief will come radically and immediately. After exercise, you should rest and avoid fasting.

First meal: After Shank Prakshalana, the following instructions must be followed. Eat no earlier than 10 minutes after exercise and no later than 1 hour after the end of exercise. It is absolutely forbidden to leave the digestive tract without food for more than an hour after exercise. However, the author uses Shank-Prakshalana to enter fasting, and in this case it is quite appropriate, replacing the use of a laxative.

The first meal will consist of rice, boiled in water and slightly overcooked so that it melts in the mouth. Rice may be accompanied by well-cooked carrots. You should eat about 40 grams of butter with it, or better yet, ghee. Rice can be replaced with wheat, oats, and so on.

IMPORTANT: Rice cannot be cooked in milk. During the 24 hours that follow the exercises, it is forbidden to drink milk, kefir, or eat yeast bread. Eat only boiled, stewed vegetables and cereals.

By doing this you contribute to the revival of normal microflora. Fruits and vegetables in their raw form are not recommended due to their insemination by microorganisms, as well as excessive stimulation of the vital principle of “Wind”, which activates glorification. Rice just contributes to the suppression of this vital principle and brings the body back to normal. Therefore, raw vegetables and fruits can be eaten the next day.

Drink: Absorption of salt water will transport some of the fluid from the blood into the intestines through high osmotic activity. Thus, the liquid coat of blood goes in the direction opposite to normal absorption, while cleaning the microvilli of the small and large intestines. It is this mechanism that makes Shank Prakshalana unique. I don't know of any cleanse (other than fasting) that cleanses the small intestine, on which our digestion and absorption depend. Enemas only work in the large intestine. Therefore, this section remains without proper treatment, and only Shank Prakshalana helps to cleanse it.

Due to the above, you will be naturally thirsty. Do not take any liquid, not even pure water, before your first meal, because you will be “feeding” the siphon, that is, going to the toilet. During and after your first meal, you can drink water or light herbal infusions.

The fact that the first bowel movements will appear only after 24 hours will not surprise anyone anymore. They will be golden, yellow and odorless, like those of a baby.

Persons suffering from constipation can do Shank Prakshalana every week, but only with 6 glasses of water. In this case, the entire cycle is completed in approximately 30 minutes. This is one of the best gut re-educations. This does not stretch the walls of the large intestines.

Happy Prakshalana!

Hello again. This article is about how to do Shank Prakshalana correctly. Let me remind you that shank prakshalana is, and now we will look at how to prepare for it.

What will happen in this article?

Don’t be alarmed, there won’t be anything out of the ordinary - you will learn how to properly prepare a salt solution, what salt is best to use (this is important!), what temperature the water should be - this is also important, how much water should be.

You shouldn’t be scared if something suddenly goes wrong - in this case, there are also working tips on what to do.

And it’s also important when you can eat and drink, and what kind of food you should eat.
In general, read carefully, especially if you have never done it before.

Preparation for Shank Prakshalana

Heat the water in which it is dissolved maritime(and if there is none, then unrefined table salt) based on 5-6 g per 1 liter of water(1 heaped teaspoon).

The resulting concentration is slightly lower than in saline solution.

The water must be salty because otherwise it will be absorbed through the mucous membrane and removed from the body in the normal way (in the form of urine).

If the water seems too salty to you, you can reduce the salt concentration to an acceptable taste.

The temperature of the water should be moderately hot, such as hot soup, so that it can be drunk without scalding.

When is the best time to clean?

The most favorable moment for the procedure is the morning (before meals).

Please note that the entire procedure initially takes more than an hour, so the most suitable time for it is the weekend morning.

You cannot perform asanas or strenuous exercises on this day - and even the next day they are contraindicated.

Scheme for performing Shank Prakshalana

We will set aside for now the th necessary to ensure the complete passage of salt water through the digestive tract. First, it’s worth presenting the entire execution process.

  1. Drink a glass of warm salted water (its temperature should be equal to the temperature of the soup that you eat with pleasure).
  2. Immediately perform the prescribed kriyas - that is, movements,... These exercises must be done in order to go to the toilet.
  3. Drink another glass and do the whole series of exercises again.
  4. Continue following the instructions in point 3 until you have drunk 6 glasses of salt water and completed six sets of exercises.
  5. After completing the sixth procedure, you need to go to the toilet. If you are doing prakshalana for the first time, then most likely you will begin to pose to the toilet only after the 8th glass.

Usually the first evacuation occurs almost immediately. In this case, normal stools that have a shape will be followed by others, softer, and then liquid (possibly yellowish).

If this does not happen immediately or no later than 5 minutes, then you need to repeat the series of exercises and then return to the toilet.

If the result is still negative - which is unlikely, but possible - then do an enema with half a liter of warm unsalted water (after doing a small enema, it is advisable to lie down and relax for a few minutes).

Once you are able to go to the toilet in a big way, all subsequent bowel movements will be induced automatically.

One useful tip: after each visit to the toilet, it is advisable to use water rather than toilet paper, then thoroughly wipe the anus and lubricate it with vegetable (olive, castor, etc.) oil to avoid irritation caused by salt.

How does colon cleansing work?

After the first bowel movement you should:

  • - drink a glass of salt water again;
  • - perform the indicated exercises;
  • - return to the toilet, where bowel movements should occur.

Continue the cycles (drinking salt water - a series of exercises - emptying the intestines) until the water comes out as clean as it entered the body.

Depending on the degree of intestinal contamination, this will happen after drinking 10-14 glasses of salt water (more if you are doing this procedure for the first time, or if you do it extremely rarely).

When you decide that you are satisfied with the results of the procedure, that is, the emerging water, in your opinion, is clean enough, then the procedure can be stopped.

After stopping the procedure, you can go to the toilet several more times over the next hour - this is the only remaining inconvenience.

If this is the case (which is not the case for everyone!), then it is advisable to drink one to three glasses of warm unsalted water and make Vamana Dhauti(induce vomiting) by tickling the back surface of the upper palate and uvula with three fingers of the right hand.

This will turn off the evacuation mechanism and completely empty the stomach. At the same time, the liver, spleen, and gall bladder are cleansed.

If you do not do Vamana Dhauti, you will run to the toilet several more times within an hour.

What to do if the process went wrong somehow?

If, after drinking, for example, four or six glasses of salt water, you feel that the contents of the stomach are not passing normally into the intestines (you feel fullness in the stomach, causing nausea), then this means that the first sphincter has not opened properly .

It's not that irreparable. Without taking any more liquid, do two or three sets of exercises. The cessation of nausea will indicate that the passage to the stomach is open. Once the evacuation mechanism is started, there will be no more difficulties and you can continue the procedure.

However, sometimes it can happen that a gas plug forms in the intestines, which prevents the activation of the evacuation mechanism. In this case, it is enough to press on the stomach with your hands or do sarvangasana or “plow” (shoulder stand or “plow” can be done in a “lazy” version, without straightening up too much and without touching the floor with your feet, for about one minute) together with.

In the most unfavorable case, i.e. if the liquid does not come out, you only have to make a decision: do Vamana Dhauti , that is, empty the stomach by tickling the base of the tongue with three fingers of the right hand to induce vomiting (relief occurs immediately), or do nothing - then the water will come out naturally in the form of urine.

After the procedure, you should rest and avoid feeling hungry.

First meal

After Shank Prakshalana, you must follow the following recommendations. Eat no earlier than half an hour and no later than an hour after completion of the procedure. If you choose an early morning on a weekend, then go to bed and take a nap. Usually beginners feel a little tired. Sleep will help you survive the first shock of your own feat

First meal should consist of purified rice, boiled in water, but not boiled (rice grains should melt in your mouth). Rice can be seasoned with lightly salted tomato juice, but pepper or any hot spices should not be used.

You can add well-cooked lentils or carrots to the rice. You should also eat 40 grams of butter along with rice. The butter can be dissolved in rice (it is better to melt it separately in a water bath) or eaten unmelted from a spoon.

Rice can be replaced with boiled wheat, oats or flour products (pasta, noodles, spaghetti, etc.) seasoned with grated cheese.

Attention! Rice cannot be cooked in milk. Over the next 24 hours, it is forbidden to drink milk or kefir. In addition, over the next 24 hours, sour foods and drinks, fruits and raw vegetables are prohibited.

Bread is allowed to be eaten during the second meal. You can eat any hard and semi-hard cheeses. White cheese and fermented cheeses (brie, camembert) are not recommended. After a day, you can return to your normal regimen, avoiding, however, any excess meat.

Drink

Absorption of salt water during the exchange process will direct some of your body fluids to the digestive tract. This will be part of the cleansing. Therefore, after performing the procedure, it is natural to feel noticeable thirst.

Do not drink any liquids, even plain water, before your first meal because you will be supporting the escape mechanism, i.e. going to the toilet. On the contrary, during the first meal and after it, you can drink water or weak infusions: linden-mint infusion, mineral water (slightly carbonated or still). Drinking alcohol during the day is strictly prohibited!

The fact that bowel movements will not appear until 24 or 36 hours after the procedure should not surprise you. They will be golden yellow in color and odorless, like those of a nursing baby.

How often should Shank Prakshalana be performed?

This procedure should be carried out at least twice a year. The average frequency of its implementation is four times a year (with the change of seasons). Those who want to do a thorough cleansing can perform the procedure monthly. Dhirendra Brahmachari advises performing shank prakshalana once every 15 days.

In fact, this procedure is not unpleasant, although there are more pleasant entertainments. The most unpleasant part of it is drinking warm salt water, the rest does not matter. However, for those with a refined taste, we suggest preparing a drink from a weak decoction of leeks or other vegetables.

Persons suffering from constipation can do shank prakshalana every week, but limit it to 6 glasses of water. In this case, the entire cycle is completed in approximately half an hour. This is the best “hardening” for the intestines: it does not stretch the walls of the colon.

What else should you know about Shank Prakshalan?

When you have done shank prakshalana - cleansing the intestines and the entire gastrointestinal tract from waste and toxins - you can proceed directly to exercises that allow you to achieve a deeper effect of cleansing the body, no longer just cleansing, but, to some extent, healing.

The practice called agnisara is very good for toning the gastrointestinal tract - this is burning the digestive fire and uddiyana bandha.

I hope everything in this article is clear enough and now you know how to do shank prakshalana. Look through the description yourself and it’s time to start the practice itself.

Shank Prakshalana is a technique that is ideal in its simplicity and very highly effective. By cleansing the entire colon, shank prakshalana removes food debris from the entire digestive tract, from the stomach to the anus.

Water enters the stomach through the mouth, and then, guided by simple exercises, passes through the entire intestine until it exits. The procedure continues until the water comes out as clear as it entered. This procedure does not pose any danger and is recommended to everyone - provided that all its techniques are performed accurately.

Preparation

Heat water in which sea salt (or unrefined table salt) is dissolved at the rate of 5-6 g per 1 liter of water (1 heaped teaspoon), which will give a concentration slightly lower than in saline solution. The water must be salty because otherwise it will be absorbed by osmosis through the mucous membrane and removed from the body normally (in the form of urine). If the water seems too salty to you, you can reduce the salt concentration to an acceptable taste.

Favorable moment

The most favorable moment for the procedure is the morning (before meals). Please note that the entire procedure initially takes more than an hour, so the most suitable time for it is the weekend morning. On this day you cannot perform asanas or sharp exercises - and even the next day they are contraindicated.

Here is a diagram of how to perform the cleansing (except for the exercises necessary to ensure the complete passage of salt water through the digestive tract - they will be described below).

1. Drink a glass of warm salted water (its temperature should be equal to the temperature of the soup that you eat with pleasure).

2. Immediately perform the prescribed kriyas (movements, exercises).

3. Drink another glass and do the whole series of exercises again.

4. Continue following the instructions in point 3 until you drink 6 glasses of salt water and do six sets of exercises.

5. After completing the sixth procedure, you need to go to the toilet.

Usually the first evacuation occurs almost immediately. In this case, normal stools that have a shape will be followed by others, softer, and then liquid (possibly yellowish).

If this does not happen immediately or no later than 5 minutes, then you need to repeat the series of exercises and then return to the toilet.

If the result is still negative - which is unlikely, but possible - then an evacuation should be induced by flushing the stomach with half a liter of warm, unsalted water using an enema (after doing a small enema, it is advisable to lie down and relax for a few minutes). As soon as the evacuation mechanism is activated, that is, as soon as the first bowel movements are released, the subsequent ones will be triggered automatically.

One useful tip: after each visit to the toilet, it is advisable to use water rather than toilet paper, then thoroughly wipe the anus and lubricate it with vegetable (olive, castor, etc.) oil to avoid irritation caused by salt.

After the first bowel movement you should:

Drink a glass of salt water again;

Perform the indicated exercises;

Return to the toilet, where bowel movements should occur.

Continue the cycles (drinking salt water - a series of exercises - emptying the intestines) until the water comes out as clean as it entered the body. Depending on the degree of intestinal contamination, this will happen after drinking 10-14 glasses of salt water (more in extremely rare cases).

When you decide that you are satisfied with the results of the procedure,

That is, if the water coming out is, in your opinion, clean enough, then the procedure can be stopped. After stopping the procedure, you can go to the toilet several more times over the next hour - this is the only remaining inconvenience.

In addition, now it is advisable to drink one to three glasses of warm unsalted water and do Vamana Dhauti by tickling the back surface of the upper palate and uvula with three fingers of the right hand. This will turn off the evacuation mechanism and completely empty the stomach.

In case of failure

If, after drinking, for example, four glasses of salt water, you feel that the contents of the stomach are not passing normally into the intestines (you feel fullness in the stomach, causing nausea), then this means that the first sphincter has not opened properly. It's not that irreparable. Without taking any more liquid, do two or three sets of exercises. The cessation of nausea will indicate that the passage to the stomach is open. Once the evacuation mechanism is started, there will be no more difficulties and you can continue the procedure.

However, in some cases, it may happen that a gas plug forms in the intestines, which prevents the activation of the evacuation mechanism. In this case, it is enough to press on the stomach with your hands or do sarvangasana or “plough” (shoulder stand or “plough” can be done in the “lazy” version, without straightening too much and without touching the floor with your feet, for about one minute) together with four others exercises.

In the most unfavorable case, i.e. if the liquid does not come out, you are left with a decision: do vamana dhauti, i.e. empty the stomach by tickling the base of the tongue with three fingers of the right hand to induce vomiting (relief occurs immediately), or nothing take - then the water will come out naturally in the form of urine.

After the procedure, you should rest and avoid feeling hungry.

First meal

After Shank Prakshalana, you must follow the following recommendations. Eat no earlier than half an hour and no later than an hour after completion of the procedure. It is strictly forbidden to leave the digestive tract empty for more than an hour!

The first meal should consist of peeled rice, boiled in water, but not overcooked (the rice grains should melt in the mouth). Beneficial Effects

The first result is the removal of impurities, i.e. deposits that have become embedded in the mucous membrane of the colon. One can be horrified by what the intestines can absorb. People for whom regular bowel movements give the illusion that they do not suffer from constipation are surprised to discover among the removed “things” a cherry pit that they swallowed several months ago. In the yogic hospital, they are often amazed to note how much waste can accumulate in the intestines, accumulating there for months and even years. It is incredible that a person can carry so much impurity within himself, and is it any wonder that many diseases will arise after this, if the entire body, in the literal sense of the word, is poisoned by the toxins accumulating in it.

At the very least, it is unreasonable to put up with this. Therefore, perform Shank Prakshalana and get rid of all the deposits that have accumulated in your digestive tract.

The beneficial effects of the procedure will not appear the next day and will not be noticeable, but it will not be slow to affect itself through fresh breath, the disappearance of rashes on the face and body. If you choose a low-toxic food regimen (without excess meat), body odors, which can be quite strong, disappear, your complexion becomes refreshed and improves. In addition, this procedure is also a tonic and also stimulates the liver (which is noticeable by the color of the excrement).

Doctors in Lonovala have successfully cured early stage diabetics by performing Shank Prakshalana once every two days for two months (though the treatment was accompanied by proper diet, pranayama and other yogic procedures). Perhaps the pancreas, under the influence of general stimulation, secretes more insulin.

Colds and many other diseases, both related to metabolism and those seemingly unrelated to it, are healed very easily and quickly.

One of the main consequences of performing Shank Prakshalana is getting rid of allergic diseases.

The consequence of cleansing the digestive tract is the normal absorption of food, which forces thin people to gain weight, and those who should part with extra pounds without regret to lose weight.

Contraindications

There are few contraindications. People suffering from stomach ulcers should refrain from performing the procedure and first heal the ulcer, and then get rid of the peptic ulcer with the help of Shank Prakshalana. The same applies to those who have diseases of the digestive tract in acute form: dysentery, diarrhea, acute colitis (chronic colitis can be significantly alleviated by using this procedure if it is not performed during an exacerbation), acute appendicitis and, in addition, cancer.

These contraindications are not, apparently, definitive. There is at least one known case of dysentery cured by shank prakshalana, and the patient had previously undergone a course of treatment with classical methods without receiving relief.

This procedure is also very effective at the final stage of treatment of oxyurosis. Indeed, when the contents of the intestines are evacuated, the worms, along with their eggs, are released. However, there are so many of them that one or another egg can escape destruction.

To move water through the digestive tract all the way to the exit, it is enough to perform the exercises given here. Each movement should be repeated four times in each direction alternately at a fairly fast pace: the entire series should take approximately one minute (a little faster is possible).

Exercises

Summary of the General Process

1. Drink a glass of warm water, salted at the rate of a teaspoon of salt per liter of water.

2. Perform a full set of exercises.

3. Drink a second glass of water and perform a set of exercises.

4. Continue this until you have drunk six glasses.

5. Go to the toilet and wait until the first evacuation occurs. If it does not happen within 5 minutes, then repeat the set of exercises without drinking any more water. If there is no result, then do a small enema to enhance peristalsis.

6. Drink a glass of water again, do the exercises and go to the toilet.

7. Continue alternating water - exercise - toilet until you achieve a satisfactory result. Yogis continue the procedure until the water comes out as clean as it entered the body.

8. To complete the procedure and remove water from the gastrointestinal tract, you need to do Vamana Dhauti: drink two glasses of warm, unsalted water and empty your stomach. This cleanses the liver, spleen, gall bladder and turns off the evacuation mechanism. If you don't do vamana dhau ti, you will run to the toilet several more times within an hour.

9. It is necessary to rest at least half an hour before eating, but in no case should you leave your stomach empty for more than an hour.

10. It is necessary to resist thirst at least until the completion of the first meal.
