This time, athletes and their families had more worries than usual before important competitions. Despite the fact that synchronized swimming was not mentioned in McLaren’s scandalous report (an international expert accused Russia of changing the doping samples of athletes at the 2012 and 2014 Olympics) the girls had to worry a lot. could not only the athletes, but also the entire Russian national team. With bated breath, our heroines read news about the doping scandal on the Internet and, of course, believed in the best. But the worries did not in any way affect the daily training schedule, which before the Olympics begins every day at 8.30. Decision of the International Olympic Committee Our team’s admission to competitions in Rio de Janeiro was announced five days before the synchronized swimmers’ departure for Brazil. The girls are our hope: they won gold for Russia at the last four Olympics.

“We stay away from doping”

— Masha, were you very worried?

Masha:“We trained hard, and I tried not to think about the bad. The day before the IOC decision, I was going to training, inspired, and suddenly I suddenly and completely realized the situation... The fear of an unfair decision gave me goosebumps. After all, so much work can simply disappear into emptiness if certain people want it. But I believed in justice, although I was ready for anything.

— Nobody accused the synchronized swimmers of doping. But has control increased? How many times have you been tested?

Masha:- Several times a month.

- Do you control yourself?

Masha:- I know what doping is. There is a long list of drugs that you need to stay away from. We are very strict with this.

— Did the psychologist work with you? Participation in the Olympics is exciting in itself, and then there is the stress of the threat over the entire team...

Masha:— We don’t have a psychologist. We communicate with each other and with the coaches. The team has a very good doctor and massage therapists who are a reliable support for us. Their jokes and humor support them better than any psychologists. Sometimes you come for a massage and you really want to cry, whine a little. You lie down for the procedure and pour out your heart to the guys. And in response to your doubts and worries, they surprisingly quickly find the right words support, joke. Immediately the mood returns to normal! Of course, for me, family is a reliable source of support. I call my mother every day: I can’t tell you anything new, because I live in the same mode. It’s just important for me to hear my mother’s voice and say how much I miss her. This gives me strength to continue working! After all, it is the mother (and she is a master of sports in artistic gymnastics) brought me into synchronized swimming. And, of course, my beloved sister is a joyful ray of light in the kingdom of training! Nyusha always brings positive energy into my life. She has such magical hugs that you forget about all your problems. No matter what mood I call my sister, she will always find Right words support. Where does she get them from?

Nyusha:— I’ve just been living on this planet a little longer (smiles). I'm five years older than you.

Masha:— By the way, Cheburashka, which my sister gave me before the first junior world championship, is going with me to Rio. Now this white soft toy is my talisman. Nyusha cannot go to all my competitions, and Cheburashka is always in her suitcase.

Nyusha:— I’m definitely going to the Olympics! I planned my performance schedule in advance so that I could fly to Rio de Janeiro. I will be very worried. I'm always wildly scared for Manya. And after her next victory I am very proud. We already have it five-time champion Europe, six-time world champion. I know that all achievements are earned through sweat and blood - through daily long hours of training.

“The most important thing in sports is the thoughts in your head”

— Masha, this is your first Olympics...

Masha:- This is the dream of my whole life. I go to her, overcoming physical and mental stress. To be honest, I was shocked when I realized that I had achieved my goal. I will defend the honor of Russia at the main sports competitions! Just recently I shared with close memories how, as a little girl, I watched with admiration the performances of the outstanding synchronized swimmer Natalya Ishchenko. I couldn’t even imagine that I would someday compete with her on the same team at Olympic Games!

— Is there hazing? Athletes who have completed several Olympics command the youth?

Masha:- No! But I'm proud that we perform together. Of course, younger girls always listen to their elders. They are more experienced! I really respect girls who have completed several Olympics. I have only been training with the national team for 4 years and I feel that this is a huge responsibility and a way of life that takes a lot of energy. The team is moving towards a common goal. During training, we forget about friendly communication outside the pool. Our coach says that in the water we have to be like sharks - a little fierce. In sports, not only are they important physical parameters, great importance have thoughts in your head. You must be purposeful, unbending, believe in yourself and those around you. By the way, Nyusha shares with me her experience of working in a team. When we meet, I ask for advice on this topic and understand that I am still far from her experience of communicating with people. Although, to be honest, in my youth I thought that my sister had an easy job: I went on stage, strained my ligaments, came up with the lyrics for the song, composed the music, no physical labor. I soon realized how unfair I had been to her case. To do this, I had to come to my sister’s concert: I saw how many people love her, appreciate her, and she works hard for them.

Our task is to make sure that we are not distinguished in the water...

Nyusha:“I am one with my team.” In this, creative people are similar to athletes. As for the whole show business, then someone may see you as a competitor, but for example, I treat everyone as colleagues. After all, this is not a sport where you need to fight with an opponent for first place, but self-expression, and each performer has his own audience.

— Can you tell Masha apart from other synchronized swimmers in the water? Everyone has the same makeup, hairstyles, swimsuits.

Nyusha:- Of course I will find out! Firstly, by the smile. Manya is always radiant, which makes her stand out in the water. Secondly, I just feel where she is, because she is a dear person. That's why I see her instantly.

— Masha, so that fans can find out if they are allowed to wear earrings or a chain? Can a synchronized swimmer get his own identification mark?

Masha:“Our task is to make sure that we are not distinguished in the water.” All 8 people must be exactly the same. Therefore, any decorations are prohibited. In addition to our relatives, a professional who understands synchronized swimming can distinguish us - each group has its own position, its own elements. For example, I perform acrobatic jumps.

Nyusha:— Masha shares details with me: we watched her performances together, so I understand synchronized swimming and see more than an untrained spectator. I try to immerse myself as much as possible not only in my profession. After all, for my sister, this is her life’s work.

For Masha Shurochkina this will be the first Olympics. Photo: Alexander VILF/RIA Novosti

— Have you tried to master any elements yourself?

Nyusha:- I like swimming. But to be honest, not as much as my sister. On vacation we spend all our time together. That's when Masha gives me advice on physical training, and I told her about proper nutrition.

Masha:“Thanks to my sister, I learned to eat not the whole dish, but half the portion.” Great way don't overeat. Although she and I have such loads that excess weight after training and rehearsals he leaves on his own. And I showed her how best to do the splits and stretch her lungs. Nyusha’s profession is very interesting to me. I like to listen to jazz after training. I became interested in Spanish lessons via Skype. I bought a guitar and dream of someday in adulthood, after finishing my sports career, playing and singing in a Spanish pub (smiles).

— Are daddy’s genes making themselves felt?

Masha:- Apparently, yes. Nyusha and I have the same father, but different mothers. But we are family friends, we are all very close people.

“First thing is training, and then the boys.”

— A synchronized swimmer’s entire life is spent in the pool?

Masha:— Yes, we train every day at our Krugloye Lake base in Khimki near Moscow. We live there five days a week: two girls per room. Only Olympic champions have privileges - they can live alone. But I find it more fun to live together. We spend four hours in the water in the morning and four hours in the evening. It's minimum. In the afternoon - classes in the gym.

- Why don’t I smell bleach on you?

Masha:— My dad recognizes this smell well (smiles). Even when I apply cream. There is a large amount of chlorine in the water in the pool, it kills germs. Of course, I was saturated with it. It dries out the skin and eyes - after all, before the Olympics we train without glasses. At first it corrodes your eyes, it hurts terribly, but little by little you get used to it. I have to use eye drops. The smell of bleach disappears only during vacation, in about a week. I try to relax with my sister at the seaside, because I can’t live without water. Previously, the more I swam, the more my skin dried out. Now without water the skin cracks like a fish's. The body has rebuilt itself.

The sisters trust each other with all their heartfelt secrets. 2006 Photo: Personal archive

— Is the water in the pool in Khimki and Rio different?

Masha:- It has different densities. In one pool it is easier to stay afloat, in another it is more difficult. The difference in temperature, even one degree, is very noticeable. The colder the water, the easier it is for us. According to standards, the temperature cannot be higher than 27 degrees. But in Rio the pool is open, the sun will be shining, so the water may overheat a little (the average air temperature in Rio de Janeiro is 28 - 30 degrees. - Ed.). The temperature is especially high when you turn upside down in the pool.

— Do you give each other commands in the water?

Masha:- No. We have a bill for music. During training, we say it out loud, the trainers knock on the ladder with an iron rod, we hear the knocking and seem to hum under water, counting to ourselves.

— Masha’s life is sports, Nyusha’s life is a stage. Do you have time for the guys? Do you like different men or do your tastes coincide?

Masha:— There is no time for personal life yet. When a relationship is just beginning, you have to spend too many emotions and during training you think not about the work process, but about the person you want to quickly leave for. And my goal is to perform well at the Olympics. Only after this will I free my soul and heart for other emotions. When they happen, I turn to my sister for advice. I always share my personal experiences with her, waiting for her assessment and opinion about the person. We are very different in character, and opposites attract. She is softer, I am a little tougher. I’m learning from Nyusha to be kinder to people, to suppress nervousness. Little sister knows how to calm you down and convince you that there is no reason to worry.

Nyusha: — Masha, of course, is interested in how I came to this. Sometimes I advise her to read a book or give her everyday advice on how to cope with emotions. Although she often suggests what to do in a difficult situation. I am no longer tired physically, but psychologically, because I constantly exchange energy with the audience. And I need to replenish it.

Masha:“When I realized that my sister’s life, too, is not jam, but hard work, I became more attentive, I try to find words of support. Sometimes at such moments it seems to me that I am older than 21 years old.

Nyusha:“Manya and I constantly find out from each other how we are doing and our mood.” If something happens on the personal front, we immediately discuss it. We like completely different types of men. And that's great. By the way, we both don’t choose a man based on his appearance; we value the same masculine qualities - wisdom, reliability, kindness and a sense of humor. The two of us are never bored: we can go dancing in a club, chat or watch a movie. Our record has been revised five times.

Masha:— Nyusha often pleases me with gifts: earrings, outfits, swimsuits... But now, as I said, all entertainment has faded into the background. My task is to give a gift to all sports fans and to perfectly defend the honor of the country at the Olympic Games.

First training

Maria's acquaintance with sports began with acrobatics. Activities in this area helped her a lot in the future. sports career. After acrobatics, Maria Shurochkina chose synchronized swimming, or rather, one day her mother took her to the pool under the pretext of amateur swimming. In fact, this was Masha’s first training session, which began unexpectedly for her.

At first there was no desire to engage in synchronized swimming, and the future famous athlete even wanted to quit training. But her parents insisted on continuing them, and over time, synchronized swimming captivated the girl so much that training began to take up all her free time. This is how the hobby grew into a professional occupation. The first coaches, thanks to whom the athlete’s talent was revealed, were Nikonova R.B. and Goncharova O.A.

Sports career

But the main sporting achievement today is the Olympic gold, deservedly received at the 2016 Rio Olympics for the group’s performance.

One of the most prominent places during performances is occupied by Maria Shurochkina. Synchronized swimming, the photos of which are so spectacular, is a very spectacular and beautiful sport. This is achieved thanks to the support and ejections of one of the girls from the water high up while simultaneously performing the most difficult elements. This is exactly the position Masha takes during the performance.

The athlete managed to achieve success thanks to training. Persistence, strength and self-confidence are the qualities that Maria Shurochkina possesses. Synchronized swimming is a very difficult sport, not only physically, but also psychologically, and in order to succeed in it, you must have amazing willpower. Close people provide great spiritual support to Masha.

Personal life

As mentioned above, synchronized swimming takes up all the athlete’s free time. Maria Shurochkina, the Olympics and preparation for it for which were main goal in life for fifteen recent years, reached the top of the world Olympus. Training took so much time that there was simply no energy or time left for personal life.

Maria really likes to spend her holidays with her sister Nyusha, but it is difficult for them to choose the time for this. One has a busy touring schedule, the other spends all her time training. When they do manage to meet, the sisters try to spend their time together as productively as possible - communicating, relaxing, or sharing experiences.

Now that the first successful Olympics in Maria’s life is behind her, she calls her dream the desire to simply be happy. And, watching the life of an athlete, her achievements and perseverance, you believe that she will succeed.

Maria Shurochkina is a young Russian athlete, an international master of sports in synchronized swimming, who has already become an 8-time world champion, 3-time European champion and Olympic champion at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Maria was born in Moscow in the family of a musician and producer, a former member of the pop group “Tender May” that thundered throughout the country. The girl’s mother, whose name is Oksana, is a former professional athlete.

The synchronized swimmer has a younger brother, Ivan. The young man also chose a sports career for himself, although the guy is involved in a little-known sport. Ivan's choice fell on tricking - a kind of combination of martial arts, acrobatics and breakdancing. But Masha’s most famous relative is considered to be her half-sister Anna Shurochkina, who was born in her father’s first family. Fans of popular music know the girl as a singer.

Maria with early years went in for sports. At first it was acrobatics and ballroom dancing, and later - synchronized swimming. Initially, the girl did not strive for great heights. When Masha agreed to her parents’ persuasion to go to the pool, she thought that she would just swim there and enjoy her time.

And when it turned out that hard, intense training lay ahead, Masha wanted to stop going to the section, but her father and mother insisted on continuing classes. And gradually Maria Shurochkina became involved in sports. Masha was taken to the Synchronized Swimming Sports School for Youth of the Moscow Sports Committee. Later, the girl received the title of Master of Sports and is now sure that without synchronized swimming, life would not be so fulfilling. In her favorite sport, the synchronized swimmer considers the French athlete Virginia Didier to be her idol.

Synchronized swimming

The first serious victories awaited the synchronized swimmer at the age of 15. At the European Junior Championships, the girl, whose height by that time had reached 163 cm, won a gold medal twice. Then Shurochkina was the first Russian woman to stand on the podium after performing in an individual program in the newly introduced “Figures” discipline.

The young athlete has many achievements in adult competitions. In 2013, at the Summer Universiade in Kazan, Masha became the champion in group and combined performance. Maria's high sporting achievements were awarded with a Certificate of Honor from the President of the Russian Federation.

In the same year, she was the best three times at the World Championships in Barcelona, Spain. Two years later, Shurochkina will repeat this success at the home world championship.

The athlete also has gold at the European Championships, which took place in Berlin, Germany, and London, the capital of Great Britain.

The girl was intensively preparing to make her dream come true. Maria set the goal of becoming an Olympic champion as part of the Russian team at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. And the goal was achieved. Maria Shurochkina and fellow synchronized swimmers, among whom were Vlada Chigireva, Alla Shishkina and others, took gold in group competitions. For her victory at the Olympics, Maria was awarded the Order of Friendship. In addition to official awards, Masha won the title of best athlete of the year at the 2016 Fashion People Awards.

Personal life

Since Maria Shurochkina now seriously intends to pursue a sports career in synchronized swimming, the girl does not think about starting a family and does not build serious relationships with men.

Masha developed a warm and friendly relationship with her older sister Anna, singer Nyusha. The girls grew up in different families, but this did not stop the sisters from spending a lot of time together. Since childhood, Anya has traveled with her father's new family. Still in in social networks, including in " Instagram“Both Anna and Maria constantly post photos together.

Shurochkina is already thinking about what she will do when big sport will remain a thing of the past. The girl thinks that coaching career will not be interesting, so she is thinking of following in the footsteps of her father and sister and taking up music. In the meantime, in her free time, Nyusha’s sister develops her creative potential.

In 2016, Maria also tried herself as a model, demonstrating a wedding dress on the catwalk during a show of the designer’s collection. Singer Nyusha and other show business stars also appeared at the show in dazzling outfits.

Maria Shurochkina now

Maria’s sports biography is developing rapidly. In 2017, the Russian synchronized swimming team, which also included Nyusha’s sister, participated in the World Championships aquatic species sport, which took place under the auspices of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) in the capital of Hungary. The competition took place at the Dagály Swimming Complex, the largest international swimming complex in Eastern Europe, recently built on the banks of the Danube.

The Russian team became third in the overall medal standings after the teams of the USA and China. Russian athletes won 11 gold, 6 silver and 8 bronze medals. The studio opened its doors to children, adults, and people with disabilities. The school offers classes in classical choreography, flamenco, Latin American dances, as well as hip-hop, breakdancing and go-go styles.
