Who will win the world championship. Who will win the World Cup? Overview of bets on the winner. Where to place bets

The World Cup is the most anticipated sporting event 2018. Leading bookmakers We have already started accepting bets on the 2018 FIFA World Cup. On this moment long-term bets are offered on the winner of the 2018 World Cup and on the results of group stage matches.

The dates for the Championship have already been determined. The final stage will take place from June 14 to July 15, 2018. On June 14, the first match will take place in Luzhniki, in which the Russian team will take part as host. The final match will also take place in Luzhniki on July 15.

Championship format

The final part of the World Cup will be held from June 14 to July 15, 2018. Of the 208 teams that took part in the qualifying games, the best remained - 32 teams.

All teams that reached the final stage are divided into eight groups. There are four teams in each group. During the group stage, each team plays one match against each opponent in the group. A total of six matches are played in each group, or 48 matches in eight groups.

As a result, half of the participants are eliminated, and on June 30, the 16 remaining teams move on to the playoffs and begin matches in the 1/8 finals. This stage lasts four days. The final matches will take place on the third of July in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The winners of eight matches will meet in the quarterfinals. The two winners of the quarterfinal matches will meet on July 10th in St. Petersburg. Two more - on the eleventh of July in Moscow.

On July 14, a match for third place in the Championship will take place in St. Petersburg. The teams that lost in the semi-final matches meet here.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup final will take place on July 15 in Moscow at the Luzhniki Stadium.

Participants of the 2018 FIFA World Cup

Based on the results of the qualifying matches, all participants in the final stage of the Championship were determined. Russia, as the organizing country, entered the group stage ahead of schedule, in December 2010.

For the first time in the history of the Championships, all FIFA members submitted applications for participation - 208 teams, not counting the Russian national team. The teams of Bhutan, Gibraltar, South Sudan and Kosovo participated in the qualifying games for the first time, but failed to reach the final.

Seven of the eight teams that previously became world champions will take part in the 2018 World Cup. The only team that will not participate in the final is the Italian team, four-time world champion, multiple finalist and semi-finalist. The team will not participate in the Championship for the first time since 1958. The reason is a sensational defeat in two play-off matches with the Swedes: the only goal in two matches was scored by Karl Johansson after a rebound.

For the first time in their history, the national teams of Iceland and Panama reached the group stage. The Icelanders performed well at the 2016 European Championship, sensationally beat the English and reached the quarterfinals. The Panamanians have been trying to qualify since 1978. The day this happened, October 11, 2017, was declared a national holiday by the country's president.

2018 FIFA World Cup Groups

On December 1, the official draw for the World Football Championship took place in the Kremlin Palace. You can already bet on group stage matches. Some conclusions about the team's chances can be drawn from the group table.

Chances of teams to qualify from the group

Let's digress a little and analyze the situation. You can already draw some conclusions: who has a greater chance of leaving the group, who has less, and who has no chance at all. In any case, there is always a place for sensations in sports, and the Icelanders may well reach the quarterfinals of the World Cup. At the moment the situation looks like this.

Group A. The first place in the group is taken by the Russian team - by right of the host country of the championship. In addition to the Russians, the group includes the national teams of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Uruguay. The Uruguayan national team is one of the most titled world football teams. Several decades ago, the Uruguayans won the championship title twice; in the last World Cup they reached the 1/8 finals. The Egyptians qualified for the first time since 1990. The Saudi national team qualified for the World Cup in 1998, 2002 and 2006, losing seven of nine matches at the World Cup, two matches were drawn. The Russian team will play the first match against the Saudis.

In group B turned out to be Portuguese and Spaniards. The match between the old rivals promises to be one of the most interesting in the group stage. In addition to them, the group included the national teams of Morocco and Iran. The Iranians never left the group. The Moroccans qualified for the first time since 1998, and left the group only once - in 1986.

The French, the 1998 champion, turned out to be in group C. The former champions' rivals will be Australia, Peru and Denmark. All three teams secured their participation in the championship in the play-offs. They can hardly be called serious rivals for the French.

The Argentina national team, two-time world champion and one of the world's best teams, settled in group D. At first glance, nothing complicated: among the competitors are world championship newcomer Iceland, the national teams of Croatia and Nigeria. The Icelanders made their debut in international competitions at Euro 2016, and in the first tournament they reached the quarterfinals. The Nigerians reached the 1/8 finals at the 2014 World Cup. Highest Achievement Croats took third place at the 1998 World Cup, after which the team never left the group.

The long-time rival of the Argentines, the Brazilian national team, came out to group E. In addition to her, the group included the teams of Switzerland, Costa Rica and Serbia. The Costa Rican national team has participated in the World Championships four times. The latest achievement was the quarterfinals of the last tournament. The Swiss have left the group twice in the last three championships, but did not rise above the 1/8 finals. Serbs in modern history never left the group.

Leader Group F– current world champion, German team. Among the team's rivals in the group are Mexico, Sweden, and Korea. Each of the teams is interesting in its own way, but it is unlikely that they will be able to provide serious competition to the Germans. The Swedes were able to qualify for the championship for the first time in 12 years, beating the four-time champion, the Italian national team, in the play-offs. However, at Euro 2016 the team did not qualify from the group, gaining one point and not scoring a single goal. The Mexicans are a stable participant in the playoffs. In the last six championships, the team overcomes the group stage and loses in the 1/8 finals.

In group G– Belgium, Panama, Tunisia, England. The Belgians look to be the leaders of the group: the team is currently ranked fifth in the FIFA rankings, and in Euro 2016 they confidently reached the quarterfinals. The England team may compete: 15th place in the FIFA rankings. After a sensational defeat from Iceland in the 1/8 finals of Euro 2016, the English team lost two friendly matches to the Germans and French, won eight matches in the qualifying stage, and drew another five. Panamanians are participating in the championship for the first time. The team is ranked 58th in the FIFA rankings and is unlikely to have a chance of qualifying from the group. Tunisia – 34th place in the FIFA rankings. In their history, the “Eagles of Carthage” have never left the group.

To group H included the teams of Poland, Senegal, Colombia and Japan. There is no clear leader in the group. The Colombians are the quarter-finalists of the last championship. The Poles qualified for the first time since 2006, but at Euro 2016 they reached the quarter-finals and lost to the Portuguese. The Senegalese reached the quarterfinals in 2002 - this was the team's only participation in the World Cup. In 2017, the team showed good results: for the first time since 2006, the Senegalese reached the quarterfinals of the African Cup of Nations. Four-time Asian Cup winner, Japanese team, in last years shows no best game. Thus, in the last five matches the team was able to win one victory, draw one match and lose three.

Match schedule

On June 30, the teams that qualified from the group will play the first matches of the 1/8 finals. In total, this stage will feature eight matches over four days.

The four quarterfinal matches will take place on July 6-7. On July 10 and 11, the winners of the quarterfinals will meet in the semifinal matches. On July 14, the match for third place will take place, where the teams that lost in the semi-finals will meet. The winners of the semi-final matches will meet in the final of the FIFA World Cup on July 15 at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.

Where to bet on the 2018 FIFA World Cup

Today, there are several hundred bookmakers operating in Russia and other countries. Some of them operate on the basis of a license issued by one of the offshore companies, for example, Curacao. Others have long been legalized.

When planning bets, the first thing you need to pay attention to is bookmaker quotes. Many professional players register with several bookmakers, compare odds, choose the best offers and conclude profitable bet.

Bookmaker bets and odds

At the World Championships in Russia there are 32 teams that have gone through a difficult qualifying stage. All teams are in the FIFA top 100. The Russian team, as the host of the championship, is in a privileged position: it entered the group stage directly, without qualifying matches, will play on its own grounds and enjoy the support of the stands. But Russia is not the main contender for victory. Let's look at the chances of the best teams, for those who like to do long term rates.

  1. Team Germany. One of the most likely contenders to win the Championship. The team has four golds, four silvers and four bronzes at the World Championships, three golds at the European Championships and the Confederations Cup, which the German team won in 2017. To date, the German team is the only one to take prizes at four world championships in a row: before the gold of the 2014 World Cup there was bronze in 2010 and 2006, as well as silver in 2002. As of now, the Germans occupy first place in prestigious international ratings FIFA and UEFA. Since 2006, the team's coach has been Joachim Löw. If the Germans' second gold in a row is in doubt, then at least they are guaranteed exit from the group. You can bet on leaving the group and winning the Championship at odds of 6.0.
  2. Spain national team. Second place in the UEFA rankings, eighth in FIFA. The team is the World Champion in 2010 and a multiple European champion. It’s interesting that after winning gold at the 2010 World Cup, at the 2014 World Cup the Spaniards couldn’t even get out of the group, losing to the teams of the Netherlands and Scotland. After this, the team thoroughly reworked its strategy and made a number of changes to its lineup. You can place a bet on a team leaving the group and bet on winning the Championship using the odds 9.0 .
  3. England team– another ex-champion with good chances of at least qualifying from the group. After last year's defeat to Iceland, England coach Roy Hodgson resigned. Today the team's head coach is Gareth Southgate. Under him, the team played 16 matches, won eight victories, drew six games and lost two. You can place a bet on a team leaving the group and bet on winning the Championship using the odds 11.0 .
  4. Good chances for high place have French national team. In 1998, the team received world gold for the first time in its history; in 2006, it reached the finals and received silver. Having lost in last year's home European Championship, the French are set for revenge at the World Championship in Russia. You can bet on the French victory in the championship using the odds 9.0 .
  5. Another team with good chances of winning the Championship is Argentina, a long-time football rival of Brazil, Germany and England. The team is one of the top three leaders in FIFA and UEFA, and is one of three teams (together with Brazil and France) that have won all FIFA championships - the World Cup, the Olympics and the Confederations Cup. Last season, the Argentina national team reached the final and took second place, losing to Germany. Perhaps this time Messi will be lucky. You can bet on qualifying from the group and bet on the Argentines winning the Championship using the odds 9.50 .
  6. Brazil national team- one of the most interesting teams taking part in the 2018 World Cup. Among other things, this is the only team that took part in all World Championships. And won five championship titles, the most recent of which dates back to 2002. In the 2014 home championship, Brazil reached the semi-finals and took fourth place, losing to the Germans with a score of 1:7. Tite has been the team's coach since 2016, and it was under his leadership that the Brazilian national team became the first team to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. You can place a bet on qualifying from the group and bet on the team’s victory in the Championship using the odds 7.0 .
  7. Russian team. This tournament has already become a record-breaking and unusual one, and the Russian team has a good chance of getting past the group stage. Even despite the anti-record 65th place in the FIFA rankings. To assess what the team is capable of at this stage, it is worth assessing the latest friendlies taking place in World Cup stadiums and against future World Cup opponents. In the last four matches, the Russians lost to the Argentines with a score of 0:1, drew their matches with the Iranian and Spanish teams and won against the Koreans. In the 2017 Confederations Cup at home, the team finished third in the group, beating New Zealand 2-0 and losing to Portugal (0-1) and Mexico (2-1). Bookmakers estimate the chances of the Russian team to be low. You can place a bet on leaving the group and winning the team in the Championship using the odds 40.0 .

World Cup statistics

  • Throughout history, eight countries have become world champions. The leader in the number of titles is Brazil: the team is a five-time world champion. The national teams of Italy and Germany took gold four times each. The national teams of Argentina and Uruguay are two-time world champions. England, France and Spain have one victory each.
  • Of the eight champion teams, seven are taking part in the 2018 World Cup: the Italian team did not pass the qualifying stage.
  • The Championship has been held in its current format since 1998. It was in the French tournament that eight groups of four teams participated for the first time. Previously, the number of participating teams did not exceed 24.
  • A total of 207 teams took part in the World Championships. Of these, 24 teams made it into the top four, including the USSR national team in 1966. Of these, 12 participated in the finals.
  • In 16 championships, the winning country belonged to the continent on which the World Cup was held. In five tournaments, the victory went to the hostess. England, Argentina, Italy, Uruguay and France received their first domestic championship titles.
  • At the moment, only two teams have been able to defend the championship title - Italy in 1938 and Brazil in 1962. In part, this can be considered a reason to reconsider Germany's chances for gold, however, the team is the leader in the number of semi-finals.
  • Most often, the Germans and Argentines clashed in the World Cup finals. They competed for three gold medals. Argentina won in 1986, Germany in 1990 and 2014.

For the first time in history, Russia will host the World Cup. For the first time in history, the World Cup is being held in Eastern Europe. And for the first time in history - on the territory of two parts of the world at once - Europe and Asia.

According to plan, The championship will take place at 12 stadiums in 11 cities in different parts of the country. Let's take a closer look at them.

The opening match and final of the Championship will be held at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.. One of the semi-final matches will also take place here. The stadium is included in Olympic complex Luzhniki is the most spacious sports complex in Russia. 81 thousand spectators can watch the match. On November 11, 2017, the stadium was opened after a long reconstruction and preparation for the Championship. In the first friendly match, the Russian team lost to the Argentines.

The second most important stadium is St. Petersburg, which was built from 2007 to 2016. The planned capacity for the 2018 World Cup is more than 68 thousand people. The stadium was put into operation in December 2016, and in 2017 matches of the 2017 Confederations Cup were held here.

Third stadium – Kazan Arena, located in Kazan. The stadium opened on June 14, 2013 and is currently the home arena of the Rubin club. Since 2013, separate competitions have been held here as part of the 2013 Summer Universiade and the World Championships aquatic species sports Kazan Arena is the only one in the world football stadium, where 12 world swimming records were set.

The fourth stadium is located in Yekaterinburg, and for the duration of the 2018 World Cup it is called “Ekaterinburg Arena”. The capacity of the stadium during the Championship is 35 thousand seats, some of which are located on collapsible stands. As part of the group stage of the 2018 World Cup, four matches will be held here.

Fifth stadium – Otkritie Arena. The stadium is located in Moscow and is the home stadium football club"Spartacus". Within international tournaments it will bear the neutral name “Spartak Stadium”. The stadium's capacity is more than 45 thousand people.

Sixth stadium – Fisht, the main stadium of the city of Sochi. The opening and closing ceremonies of the winter festivals were held here. Olympic Games 2014. The stadium is designed for 44 thousand spectators for football matches within the framework of the 2018 World Cup.

Several more stadiums should be completed by the end of 2017:

  1. "Mordovia Arena", Saransk. During the World Cup, the capacity of the stadium is 45 thousand seats; at the end of the championship, the collapsible stands will be dismantled and the further capacity will be 30 thousand seats. At the moment, the first lawn mowing took place at the stadium.
  2. "Samara Arena", Samara. It will host four group stage matches, as well as individual round of 16 and quarter-final matches. A test match at the stadium is scheduled for April 2018.
  3. "Rostov Arena", Rostov-on-Don. The planned capacity is 45 thousand seats. At the moment, construction and finishing work is almost completed and landscaping of the surrounding area is underway.
  4. "Kaliningrad Stadium", Kaliningrad. Construction of the stadium began in 2015, commissioning by the end of 2017. This is one of the most compact and comfortable stadiums for the World Cup, with a total capacity of about 35 thousand seats.
  5. Stadium " Nizhny Novgorod", Nizhny Novgorod city. According to the plan, construction and installation work will be completed in December 2017. The planned capacity is 45 thousand places, including 902 places for disabled people and accompanying persons. As part of the 2018 World Cup, four group stage matches, one round of 16 match and one quarter-final will be held here.
  6. Volgograd Arena, Volgograd. Four matches will be held here as part of the group stage; in the future, according to the plan, the stadium will be used as the home arena of the Rotor-Volgograd team.

The World Championship has entered its final stage. 8 games left. 8 most important games. It’s already a little sad, because 24 national teams flew home, their fans flew away, Messi flew away, Ronaldo flew away, Germany flew away, Germany might not have come. Saransk has become Saransk again, Yekaterinburg has become Yekaterinburg, and on Nikolskaya Street they are slowly calculating how much new lampposts and benches will cost.

But the most unsolved main question. Who will be the new world football champion? Let's try to fantasize and understand this issue together with the actor of the show “Improvisation” on TNT Dmitry Pozov.

Russia

Who would have thought that we would still be talking about the chances of the Russian team? Usually by this stage our players are sunbathing on the beach. But not at this time. We must try and win. Because in Russia there is no monument to mustaches, because there is no Hero of Russia with the last name Dzyuba. And I also want the Russian team to win, because then Mario Fernandez will become the world champion. To be born Brazilian and become a world champion as part of the Russian national team. Hocus Pocus. Neymar will grab his head on this occasion, fall to the ground and roll to Rio.

Croatia

To become world champion, they need to knock us out. It will be sad. But we owe them for Euro 2008: a rare case in history when we didn’t want to play there and did everything for it, and the Croats gave us a ticket. Out of desperation, we then took bronze. Mandzukic, Modric, Rakitic can only become champions in Russia. Palych became. And they can. Not even champions, but champions.

Sweden

But Sweden is unlikely. Based on the logic of the previous paragraph, they would need Ibrahimovic to win in Russia. But he's not there. It turned out, however, that it was even better without him. The Swedes directly or indirectly destroyed the title chances of the Netherlands, Italy and Germany. And even the Albanian team, disguised as Switzerland, could not do anything with the Swedes. So anything can happen.

England

England come to win every tournament and are eliminated on penalties every time. But the World Cup in Russia is special. Even the British were able to win in a penalty shootout. England was so worried that in Russia they would be beaten, poisoned or offended that at any moment they could decide that it was time to go home. In our part of the bracket, England is the only team that has been world champion. And I want a new champion. No offense, British. Nothing personal. Just don't quarrel with me at the highest level.

France

The African national football team with French passports has a good chance. She was booed by her own fans in the match with Denmark, so they are no longer afraid of anything.

Uruguay

If Uruguay wins, then we can say that even though we lost 0:3, we lost to the world champions. As long as Suarez hasn't bitten anyone or been disqualified, there's a chance.

Belgium

It will be great if Belgium reaches the final. The only team in its part of the bracket that has never won the championship. We want our championship to go down in history, right? The finals Belgium-Croatia, Belgium-Sweden and especially Belgium-Russia will definitely make the tournament legendary. Everyone will know that if in some sport someone wins for a long time and becomes bored, then all they need to do is hold the competition in Russia.

Brazil

While the Brazilians beat Serbia, Costa Rica and Mexico, their eternal rivals the Italians and Dutch do not arrive, the Germans, Argentines and Spaniards are eliminated, and the French or Uruguayans will soon follow. Most likely, Brazil's opponent will forget to enter the field for the semifinals, and will score an own goal in the final. There are Brazil and 7 other teams. Chances 1:7. Just don't show these numbers to Brazilians.

Ahead 7 most interesting matches and a match for 3rd place, in which the tear-stained losers of the semi-finals will find out which of them is more unlucky. If you have been living in a cellar for three weeks and have not followed the news of the World Cup, then it is not too late to start. Of course, you won’t be able to enjoy the game between Panama and Saudi Arabia, but there will be joy and suffering in every match. Just like in the series.

Germany, Brazil, France, Spain, Argentina - approximately in this order, bookmakers placed the main contenders for victory at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in their lines when opening betting lines. From time to time the first two favorites changed places, but in general the order remains the same. In this post we will tell you more about how bookmakers now assess the chances of different teams to win the tournament.

Please note: many bookmakers accept long-term bets on the World Cup in Russia, but the odds on their lines may vary. We show the highest possible at the time of publication of the material.

The main contenders for victory at the World Cup in Russia, according to bookmakers, are the teams of Germany and Brazil. Both teams have the largest number of championship titles at the World Cup, and this time it is expected that one of them will once again become the strongest. For those who cannot choose one team, the bookmaker “1xBet” offers a bet that implies the victory of any of them.

2018 World Cup winner: Germany or Brazil

Since, according to bookmakers, the favorites are the national teams of Germany and Brazil, you can also bet that in the fight for gold medals in decisive match These teams will meet each other.

Pair of finalists: Germany and Brazil – Yes

Germany national team at the 2018 World Cup: statistics and bets

The German national team has always been stable, and it was German players who most often participated in the final matches of the world championship. Of the eight gold medal games, the German team emerged victorious four times. The current team also shows consistency in its results, and after losing to the French in the semi-finals at Euro 2016, the Germans went on an unbeaten streak of 22 matches. Only in their last game did the German team suffer a defeat, losing to the Brazilians 0-1.

The reigning world champions won all 10 matches in the qualifying tournament and became the only team that did not lose points during the entire qualifying cycle.

The coach of the German team, Joachim Löw, has a huge selection of high-quality football players, which was confirmed by last year's Confederations Cup. There, the German national team competed as the second or even third team, but was still head and shoulders above the other teams, eventually becoming the winner of the tournament.

In the last four friendly matches before the 2018 World Cup against England, France, Spain and Brazil, the German team was unable to win, drawing three times and losing to the South Americans. Based on this fact, it is, of course, not worth saying that the German team is losing its winning spirit: in these games, Joachim Löw watched a large number of players, and the status of friendly matches, coupled with the high level of opponents, also matters. In addition, it became known that the main goalkeeper of the German national team, Manuel Neuer, is beginning to get into shape for the World Cup after a serious injury, and his return will only strengthen the “German machine”.

2018 World Cup winner: Germany

There are also some statistics that may sound like an argument against the success of the German team. In the history of the World Championships, only two teams managed to win the tournament twice in a row, and this happened for quite a long time. In 1934 and 1938, the Italian team was able to win the World Cup twice in a row, and in 1958 and 1962 the Brazilians managed to do the same. Based on this, we can consider the bet and the game of the German team in the final.

The German national team will reach the World Cup final

In the history of world championships, most often the German national team was in the top three teams. German players have been in the top three teams 11 times, including four times in a row - in the last four tournaments, which is the longest streak by this indicator.

The German team will take place from 1st to 3rd

Brazil national team at the World Cup in Russia: bets and statistics

The Brazilian team demonstrates high-level football in its matches, and the closer the world championship is, the more spectacular and meaningful the game of the South Americans. Away victories over the future hosts and the current world champions once again confirm the power of the Brazilian squad. Apparently, Brazil national team coach Tite has already decided with whom he will go to the World Cup, and with the recovery of the injured Neymar, the team’s performance can become even stronger.

2018 World Cup winner: Brazil

Perhaps the location of the tournament plays against the Brazilians' victory. According to statistics, only once did a team from another continent win the World Cup in Europe (and it was held there 10 times). In 1958, at the World Cup in Sweden, it was the Brazilian team that became the strongest. Anyone who considers this fact significant may consider the team reaching the finals of the tournament.

Brazil will reach the World Cup finals

In addition to five championship titles, Brazilians won silver and bronze medals twice at the World Championships. Judging by the quotes, bookmakers believe that the Brazilians will not be left without medals at the World Cup in Russia.

The Brazilian national team will take place from 1st to 3rd

French national team at the World Cup: bookmakers' expectations

The French national team is also included in the list of main contenders for victory, judging by the bookmaker odds. 20 years ago the French were already the strongest on the planet, and now the team has a chance to repeat that success. Didier Deschamps managed to create a team in which there are both experienced (A. Griezmann, O. Giroud, P. Pogba and R. Varane) and young (K. Mbappe, U. Dembele) football players of the highest level who are quite capable of achieving excellent results in Russia. Second place at Euro 2016 also confirms the strength of the French team, because many of that squad are still on its roster now.

2018 World Cup winner: France

The French national team participated in the World Championships 14 times, and reached the semi-finals in four of them. The last time the French were in the top four was in 2006, when they reached the final, where they lost on penalties to Italy.

The French team will reach the semi-finals of the World Cup

The national teams of Spain and Argentina: shadow favorites of the World Cup?

The top five candidates for the title, judging by the odds set, also include the Spanish and Argentine national teams.

In March 2018, the teams met each other in a test match, and the “red fury” left no stone unturned against the South Americans, defeating them with a score of 6-1. The Spaniards also played the qualifying tournament quite confidently, not losing a single game out of ten and scoring 9 victories.

Until recently, the Spanish national team dominated the football fields of the world, winning three major tournaments in a row (European Championships in 2008 and 2012 and the 2010 World Cup). Now the team also has players who have tasted victory in those tournaments, and it seems that Andreas Iniesta, Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique and their partners will do everything to return their team to its former positions.

2018 World Cup winner: Spain

The only time in their history that the Spaniards were among the top four teams at the end of the tournament was in 2010, when they became champions. Despite this, Julen Lopetegui's team's chances of reaching the semi-finals are considered quite high.

The Spanish national team will reach the semi-finals of the World Cup

The March match against the Spanish national team once again confirmed that the game of the Argentine team is mainly determined by Lionel Messi. In his absence, Jorge Sampaoli's squad was unable to oppose anything to the opponent, and what was known before becomes even more obvious: the result of the Argentina national team at the World Cup will depend on the performance of Lionel Messi.

The leader of the South American team has quite serious motivation before the upcoming tournament, because throughout his brilliant career there has not yet been a gold medal in the main football tournament on his list of awards. There are also players in the national team who can help their leader lead Argentina to victory at the World Cup: Sergio Aguero, Angel Di Maria, Gonzalo Higuain with their teammates led by Lionel Messi may well appear as a combat-ready team at the World Cup.

Football World Cup 2018: latest news

IOC head: after the 2018 World Cup, the opinion of many people about Russia has changed

President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach believes that Russia can be proud of the way it held the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

“Of course, I am shocked by the performance of the Russian team, because no one expected this. We haven't seen you for a long time Russian team in official meetings, so the result shown is truly impressive. All the games before the tournament don't matter, the important matches start here at the World Cup, and in them Russia were excellent.

I really liked Dzyuba. If I were coaching a team, I would definitely take a closer look at this striker. It is very difficult to play against him, Artyom is physically strong, and in games for the national team he was always aimed at the goal, he was very aggressive. It seems to me that if he got into a suitable team from England, he could become a star there. Call me, I will help him get settled well. Dziuba - a good choice for many teams in England.

MOSCOW, June 11 - RIA Novosti, Alfiya Enikeeva. Brazil will meet Germany in the final, and the Russian team is highly likely to advance from the group. How scientists predict football results - in the RIA Novosti material.

Before the last World Cup, the late Stephen Hawking developed several recommendations for the England team: play in a temperate climate, no higher than five hundred meters above sea level, with a 4-3-3 formation and always wear a red uniform. Also, for a team to win, only forwards must take free kicks, making a solid run-up and certainly hitting internal part feet.

Hawking analyzed all English matches since 1966 and believed that these simple rules will contribute to the victory. It is unknown whether the team listened to the advice of the eminent physicist, but in 2014 the British team did not even make it out of the group.

Bookmakers method

Before the current championship, scientists did not make such recommendations for players; they only tried to predict the outcome of individual matches and the entire tournament. Typically, such forecasts are based on multifactor correlation analysis, which takes into account a huge number of criteria: from the number of goals scored and missed in past games to the location of the game and even the weather that forecasters promise.

Economists from the University of Innsbruck (Austria) Christoph Leitner and Achim Zeileis took an easier route, collecting the results of existing forecasts and basing their analysis on the odds of 26 leading bookmakers in the world.

Scientists calculated the probability of the outcome of personal meetings between teams and compared them with data based on bookmaker indicators. Economists then modeled the entire World Cup bracket and determined each team's chances of qualifying from the group, participating in the quarter-finals, semi-finals, finals and winning.

Thus, the favorites of each group were determined, including the Russian team. The national team has a 64 percent chance of leaving the group, scientists are sure. Brazil and Germany are likely to meet in the final (the chances of this happening are estimated at 5.5 percent). The probability that Brazil will win the tournament is 16.6 percent. In Germany, current champion world, this figure is 15.8 percent, for Spain and France - 12.5 and 12.1 percent, respectively.

Monte Carlo method

The forecast of University of Adelaide (Australia) professor Steve Begg favors Germany over Brazil (13.3 percent is the maximum probability). And the professor estimates the chances of his compatriots to be low - 0.1 percent. However, leaving the Australian group is quite possible (14 percent).

A specialist in decision theory and risk analysis, Steve Begg is accustomed to working with scientific problems that lack sufficient input data. For his forecast, he used the so-called Monte Carlo method, when the process is simulated using a random variable generator. This is repeated many times, and then the probabilistic characteristics of the problem being solved are calculated.

In Begg's simulation, the role of random variables was played by all possible outcomes of all matches that will be played at the 2018 World Cup. And the probability was calculated taking into account additional factors - the country’s place in the FIFA rankings, physical fitness its players and other criteria.

Neural network method

The German team also takes the crown from the computer program created by a fourth-year student at the Perm State National Research University, Viktor Zakopailo.

The press service of Perm State National Research University is confident that the accuracy of the forecast is more than 80 percent. After all, when compiling it, the neural network took into account a complex combination of criteria - from the cost of players to the age of the coach and the number of injured athletes on the team.

After analyzing all this data, artificial intelligence suggested that the Russian team would take 27th place out of 32 possible, which means it would not leave the group.

Fool the bookmaker

As experts note, it is possible to predict match results using Big Data and artificial intelligence, and predictive models based on machine learning are much more accurate than forecasts from bookmakers.

However, as an international group of mathematicians found out, bookmakers, wanting to attract more customers, balance bets and avoid too large losses, sometimes cheat with odds. For example, if many clients place bets on the victory of one team, then the office can slightly increase the bets on the victory of its opponent and thus pull players to the side of the weaker team.

Having analyzed bets on almost five hundred thousand football matches held from 2005 to 2015, scientists have derived a formula that allows them to calculate the true probability of a team winning according to bookmakers.

By applying their strategy to real bets, the authors of the work were able to earn about a thousand dollars in five months. Such a modest win is explained by the small number of bets and their small amount. Indeed, soon after testing the algorithm began, bookmakers identified enterprising mathematicians and limited bets for them.
