Federal qualifying competitions were held in 17 constituent entities of Russia - Ivanovo, Moscow, Novgorod, Samara, Sverdlovsk, Ulyanovsk, Yaroslavl regions, Khabarovsk Territory, Moscow and other regions. The winners of 85 regional championships competed for the right to reach the finals - more than 17 thousand competitors in total. The professional skills of schoolchildren, college and university students were assessed by more than 20 thousand experts.

The winners of the qualifying competitions will take part in the finals of the VI National Championship “Young Professionals” (WorldSkills Russia) - 2018, which will be held from August 8 to 12 in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. The final will bring together about 800 competitors from all over the country. The winners and prize-winners of the championship will be included in the expanded composition of the WorldSkills Russia national team, from which Russian participants will subsequently be selected for the world championship in professional skills WorldSkills Kazan 2019, as well as the European championship EuroSkills, which will be held in 2018 in Budapest.

The Ivanovo region is historically one of the centers of weaving and flax processing in Russia. At the end of the 19th century, Ivanovo-Voznesensk was rightly compared to Manchester, the largest textile center in England. Ivanovo textile factories produced most of the country's cotton products.

In the structure of industrial production in the Ivanovo region, textile and clothing production currently accounts for the largest share - 44.8%. The average number of workers in textile and clothing enterprises is 30.4 thousand people, which is half of all workers in the manufacturing industry in the region.

Training of qualified workers and mid-level specialists for textile and light industry enterprises in the region is carried out in 9 out of 24 (38%) professional educational organizations in the territories of 8 out of 27 municipalities.

In the current academic year in vocational colleges, more than 700 people are trained in 4 professions: “Seamstress”, “Sewing equipment operator”, “Cutter”, “Tailor” and 3 mid-level specialties: “Textile technology”, “Design, modeling and technology of garments”, "Artistic design of textile and light industry products."

At the same time, at the Ivanovo State Polytechnic University, in the departments of textile design and garment design, one of the best proprietary design schools in Russia has emerged and work is underway to translate and adapt foreign methods of clothing design to Russian practice. The educational concept of the University's Department of Textile Design is focused on the creative achievements of the world's best designers, trends in fine art and design of the late 20th century - early 21st century, the culture of past civilizations and the traditions of folk art of the Ivanovo region.

Inextricably linked with the textile history of the Ivanovo region professional biography Russian artist-fashion designer Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Zaitsev, which began with studying at the Ivanovo Chemical-Technological College with a degree in textile design.

Vyacheslav Zaitsev is the president of the Russian fashion festival “Ples on the Volga. The Ivanovo College of Light Industry dates back to 1930, when a workers' education plant was created in Ivanovo-Voznesensk, which included the school of the Melange Plant. During the war, the FZU school became part of the country's labor reserve system; students sewed military uniforms and parachutes for the needs of the front.

In 1995, the vocational school received the status of a lyceum. In 2005, by Decree of the Governor of the Ivanovo region, the lyceum was transformed into an educational and production complex of light industry of the Ivanovo region, becoming the first innovative educational institution of the system vocational education Ivanovo region. The complex united three vocational educational institutions of the NPO system: two textile schools and one sewing school, continuing the training of young skilled workers for textile and clothing enterprises of the Ivanovo region in the new economic conditions.

In 2014, the lyceum was renamed the Ivanovo College of Light Industry.

Today the college is a modern educational institution with a good educational and production base, which cooperates with more than 60 textile and light industry enterprises in the Ivanovo region. The college is a basic institution providing training in sewing specialties.

Professional skills competitions are held at enterprises, educational institutions, as well as at the regional, national and international levels.
Competitions for blue-collar occupations are held in Russia by the Ministry of Labor together with federal and regional executive authorities, all-Russian trade union associations and all-Russian employers' associations. The purpose of the competitions is to increase the prestige of blue-collar professions in demand in the labor market, promote achievements and best practices, and assist in attracting young people to study and find employment in blue-collar professions.
To identify and support talented specialists in the field of culture, the “Best Cultural Worker of the Year” competition is held. Similar competitions are held in the education system.
Competitions at the international level are held by WorldSkills International, founded in 1953, in which 77 countries participate. Every two years, the organization holds a championship of blue-collar professions in 45 specialties.
Skills competitions allow people to receive not only financial rewards from their work, but also recognition and respect in society.
