At the European Figure Skating Championships in Moscow, men will present free programs.

Javier Fernandez became a six-time European champion! There are also two Russians on the podium - Dmitry Aliev and Mikhail Kolyada.

Javier Fernandez with a gold medal at the European Championships. By the way, this is already the 12th continental championship for the skater - and the sixth victory! Photo: Yana Belotserkovskaya

Dmitry Aliev: When I walked under the table, Javier Fernandez was already competing at the European Championships. And even then he was an example for me. For me, standing on the podium next to a skater who has already made history in figure skating is a huge honor.

Javier Fernandez: The Olympics are just a few weeks away. Immediately after the European Championships I return to Tornto and start training.

Javier Fernandez became a six-time European champion. Bravo, Javi! Photo: Natalia Shadrina

Results:

1. Javier Fernandez (SPAIN) - 295.55

2. Dmitry Aliev (RUSSIA) - 274.06

3. Mikhail Kolyada (RUSSIA) - 258.90

23:50 Dmtriy Aliyev takes second place. Based on the sum of the two programs, he has 274.06

23:49 What a fellow our Dmitry Aliev is! Bravo! Two cleanly executed four-turn jumps. Not a single failure! Not a single failure! We hold our breath and wait for the ratings. But Dima did everything he could today.

23:45 They say you can endlessly look at fire and water. We don't know. But we are sure of one thing - you can really look at Javier Fernandez endlessly... It's simply incredible. Javier was almost killed by toys and gifts that literally rained down on his head. Of course he is in the lead - 295.55 in total. Fantastic!

23:40 The stands welcome the legendary Javier Fernandez. Look how many Spanish fans are in the stadium!

23:30 The audience is very supportive of Denis, he deserves it, even if he made a few mistakes. But we saw a separate performance in the coaching position - Stefan Lambiel literally danced the entire program with Denis, he is so worried about his student! It’s a pity that Lambiel has already finished his career - that’s who I’d really like to see at the championship in Moscow. Denis came in third place.

23:25 On the ice Denis Vasilievs from Latvia, three-time champion of his country. He had a quadruple sheepskin coat in his application, but the athlete couldn’t make the jump and Denis fell.

23:21 Poor Yorick! The Belgian's jumps didn't go well. He fell from a triple toe loop in a cascade, then instead of a triple Lutz he performed only a single Lutz. As a result, Yorick is only seventh in the sum of the two programs.

23:15. On the ice, Belgian Yorick Hendricks, three-time champion of his country, brother of Luna Hendricks, whom we saw yesterday. By the way, when Luna was performing, Yorick was very passionately rooting for her on the podium. And he reacted very emotionally to her fall. Yorick also did not declare a single four-turn jump.

23:12 On Ice - Italian Matteo Rizzo. He doesn't do quadruple jumps at all. Matteo coped well with the program, but, of course, it is very unusual to see a skater without quadruple jumps in the group of the strongest. As a result, Matteo is only sixth in the sum of the two programs.

23:05 Unfortunately, Misha fell from a quadruple Lutz at the very beginning of the program. Next, instead of a quadruple Salchow, it turned out to be only a triple. Another quadruple jump - sheepskin coat - also ended in a fall. Everything else was performed well, the judges rejected the triple axel-triple toe loop cascade, triple lutz, and the remaining cascades. But, alas, not a single four-turn jump... His result is 258.90. Now he ranks first.

Mikhail Kolyada. Photo: Natalia Shadrina

23:01 Bronze medalist of the last European Championship (2017), current Russian champion Mikhail Kolyada on the ice!

22:55 Well, now everything will be decided. The last group of athletes went out to warm up. Among them are two Russians: Mikhail Kolyada(he is fourth after the short program) and Dmitry Aliev(he is second after the short one). A Latvian figure skater is also warming up on the ice Denis Vasilievs, who is trained by the famous figure skater Stephane Lambiel. He is in third place after the short program. The hall explodes when they introduce Javier Fernandez. This skater became the first European champion in Spanish history. Javier leads after the short program.

22:44 On the ice - Alexander Samarin, 19-year-old Russian figure skater. Sasha started with a quad Lutz, but landed with his hand touching the ice. There was supposed to be a cascade here, but Samarin did not take the second jump. Next, he performed a triple Lutz and a quadruple sheepskin coat cleanly.

And in general, Sasha was successful in jumping today! But, alas, Sasha was left without one cascade. 229.81 is its amount.

Alexander Samarin. Photo: Natalia Shadrina

22:37 And the main Israeli hope has already appeared on the ice - the figure skater Alexey Bychenko. And he started very powerfully - he made two amazing cascades, the judges gave him the best they could. He managed to do two excellent quadruple jumps. But in the middle, alas, several jumps at once were not entirely successful for Alexey; he made a triple Axel with a blot, and the second jump in the cascade turned out to be only a single jump. But he was able to pull himself together and completed the program very emotionally. Alexey is pleased with his performance - of course, today we have not seen such clean quadruple jumps! By the sum of the two programs, Bychenko scored 238.44 and took intermediate first place!

22:34 The audience welcomed Maurice very warmly, there are clearly many of his fans here. But... alas, today Maurice Kvitelashvili Almost nothing happened. It's hard to watch his coach Eteri Tutberidze, who was watching him at the edge. It's a shame, because this skater really has a very expressive program. However, now his total points are not at all competitive - 210.47, he is only fourth.

22:29 Maurice Kvitelashvili is preparing to take to the ice.

22:28 In total, Mayorov has 225.86. Now he's the first!

22:25 Riding to the James Bond soundtrack "From Russia with love" Mayorov.

Instead of a triple Salchow, it was only a double Salchow. And Mayorov was not able to do quadruple jumps (he did not complete the Salchow in the cascade; instead of another quadruple Salchow, he jumped a triple flip).

22:20 On the ice - Swedish figure skater Alexander Mayorov. He was born in the Soviet Union and emigrated with his parents to Sweden when he was 1 year old. His father, Alexander Viktorovich Mayorov, was the first coach Alexey Yagudin. Now he is also involved in coaching. Choreographer Mayorova is his mother. He also has a younger brother, Nikolai, who is also involved in figure skating.

22:18 Michal Brzezina came out on top with a total of 225.20.

22:11 On the ice - Michal Brzezina, popular Czech figure skater. He started to the song Human by Jame Hartman, and the audience sang along. By the way, for only two seasons you can perform to music with words; previously this was prohibited in figure skating. Michal mastered the combination - quadruple Salchow - double toe loop, and finally we saw a cleanly executed quarter jump! True, after that Michal fell from a triple Lutz.

22:08 Souvenir shops. You can buy keychains, mugs, sweatshirts and much more with championship symbols. The stalls are empty only during the strongest warm-up performances.

21:52 And the participants of the third warm-up have already appeared on the ice, including several very interesting athletes who are ready to fight for the highest places. The audience warmly welcomed the Russian during the warm-up Alexandra Samarina- his performance in the final of this group. The Georgian figure skater from the group was also greeted with applause Eteri Tutberidze - Maurice Kvitelashvili, who previously represented Russia.

21:45 Now the ice pouring has begun for the third group of participants. Let's sum up the preliminary results: the Frenchman is in first place so far Shafik Besseghe- he has a total of 211.17 points, in second place Phillip Harris from the UK - for two programs he scored 208.22 points, followed by another Frenchman Romain Ponsard with a total of 200.72 points.

21:37 Let's get out of the tribune rooms! Leaders are changing very quickly on the ice now. Just skated my free program Irakli Maisuradze from Georgia. But he is only fourth so far.

21:27 By the way, from the area where the judging team works, you can also clearly see how the operators work. Filming is carried out from different points, one of which is right here.

Judges' work area. Filming is being done here with a camera mounted on a crane. The kiss and cry area is also clearly visible. Photo: Yana Belotserkovskaya

21:25 Out on the ice for the judges.

20:51 The second group of participants took to the ice. While he's riding Philip Harris from the UK, we will tell you a little about how judges work.

The panel of judges is quite large and necessarily consists of representatives from different countries. Each event is judged by a different panel of judges. The judges sit along the side, each with a monitor to watch replays. They can zoom in on any element that raises questions. There is also a technical controller and a technical team sitting at the side.

A separate wing is reserved for them, where only they have access. We looked in there and saw how they work.

Judges at work. Photo: Yana Belotserkovskaya

Of course, they have their own access to the ice. Their wing has separate lounges, places for eating, and changing rooms. Also in the referee area, in the rooms below the stands, there are judges who sit at the screens and watch controversial issues.

And now a little about how ratings are given in figure skating.

For each element performed by the skater, the score is calculated using this algorithm. The technician determines the name and level (basic, 1, 2, 3 or 4). The table determines the base cost of the element in points ( SOV— Scale of Value). The judges determine the level of performance ( GOE— Grade of Execution) from −3 to +3, the highest and lowest GOE are discarded, the remaining seven in the table are converted into a bonus/penalty for points, averaged and rounded to two digits. An element may be scored negatively, in which case the element is worth zero points.

Scores for all elements are added up to form the Total Element Score.

19:55 Dance duets have just finished their performance. We are sincerely happy for our dancers - Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin. Tomorrow the European champion will be determined in this type of program.

And right now, on the ice of Megasport, men continue to fight for this title. The first warm-up has already taken place on the ice. Estonian figure skater Daniel Albert Naurits opens this type of program. And in the first group there is a figure skater from Finland Walter Virtanen, who is a doctor by training and works in a hospital!

Third warm-up:

13. Paul Fentz (Germany)14. Michal Brzezina (Czech Republic) 15. Alexander Mayorov (Sweden)16. Maurice Kvitelashvili (Georgia) 17. Alexey Bychenko (Israel) 18. Alexander Samarin (Russia)

Fourth warm-up

19. Mikhail Kolyada (Russia) 20. Matteo Rizzo (Italy) 21. Yorick Hendricks (Belgium) 22. Denis Vasiliev (Latvia) 23. Javier Fernandez (Spain) 24. Dmitry Aliev (Russia)

ON-LINE TRANSLATION

23:35. This concludes our broadcast from the European Figure Skating Championships. Let us remind you that in a dramatic struggle she won the gold medal, beating the total of two programs Evgeny Medvedev. Two Russian women on the top steps of the podium - isn’t that wonderful? The top three were completed by the Italian Carolina Costner, which, by a controversial decision of the judges, was ahead of another representative of Russia Maria Sotskova. We wish you a good weekend and thank you for being with us all this time! See you again!

23:30. “Without any respect. Now Zagitova is Russia’s main hope?” - operational report from Andrey Shitikhin.

Without any respect. Now Zagitova is Russia's main hope?

What else can you call a figure skater who beat a two-time world champion at the age of 15? So what should Medvedeva do now?

23:15 . Trainer Evgenia Medvedeva and Alina Zagitova Eteri Tuteberidze accepts numerous congratulations and stands with a whole bag of soft toys.

23:00 . Cute French girl Lauren Lecavalier took only 12th place and complained that she had to change the program that she really liked. But a temporary setback is not a reason to be discouraged, is it?

22:45. Maria Sotskova admitted that she was dissatisfied with the final fourth place at the European Championships.

“Could I get ahead of Carolina? Nothing is impossible. But I didn’t set a goal to overtake anyone. The most important thing for me is to go out and skate cleanly, to prove to myself that I can. Is it a shame to be fourth? It is my fault. I have never been to the Olympics in my life and I sincerely hope that I will be the one to go there - I’m not sure about that yet. I don’t want to make any plans or make any plans yet, I just want to prepare and get back into shape that will allow me to feel confident.”

22:30. demonstrated a magnificent and very emotional performance, but this was not enough to win the European Championship. Evgenia has 232 points versus Alina’s 238. Zagitova becomes European champion! Carolina Costner closes the top three. Maria Sotskov a - fourth.

22:15. Alina Zagitova! Wow! This is a rental. Simply gorgeous. Alina has 238.24 points based on the sum of two programs! It will be very difficult now Evgenia Medvedeva. Let's see!

22:10. Carolina Costner made a huge number of mistakes, but somehow still remained ahead of our Maria Sotskova. We have questions for the judges! What if something similar happens to the Russians at the Olympics? Fans are outraged on social networks.

22:00. Nicole Rajicova from Slovakia will not be able to compete for a medal at the European Championships. The third intermediate place does not give any hope for a miracle. The main drama of the tournament is ahead! Costner, Zagitova and Medvedeva will take to the ice of the Megasport Arena. The spectators lay low in anticipation.

21:55. Maria Sotskova failed to avoid mistakes, but still occupies the first intermediate position. The young Russian woman has 200.81 points in total. To get on the podium, Maria will have to wait for serious mistakes from her rivals.

21:45 . Here it is - the final group of six skaters. Will start first Anita Estlund from Sweden, and will continue - Maria Sotskova, Nicole Rajichova, Carolina Kostner, Alina Zagitova and Evgenia Medvedeva, who will perform in a new dress. Something will happen.

21:30. After the performance of three groups, the leader is the Belgian Lena Hendricks. Swiss woman takes second place Alexia Paganini, and the Frenchwoman closes the top three Mahe-Bérénice Meite.

21:25. The squirrel, the competition's mascot, has a fluffy tail so large that you have to hold it while turning.

21:15 . A brief survey of fans showed that Evgenia Medvedeva significantly more fans than Alina Zagitova. Here is one point of view.

21:05. The current leaders can take a breather without going to the locker room, but watching the performances of their opponents in the mixed zone.

20:55 . The third group will perform Laurine Lecavelier, Lena Hendricks, Alexia Paganini, Eliska Brzezinova, Emmi Peltonen and Mahe-Bérenice Meite. These skaters took places from 7th to 12th in the short program.

20:45 . This is how they prepare for a performance And. A telephone and oranges are the key to success.

20:35 . Of the first two warm-ups, only the German was of interest to journalists Schott. The rest of the time the mixed zone is empty. But in just over an hour it will be crowded.

20:30 . After the performance of two groups, the German woman took the lead Nicole Schott. In second place Yvette Toth from Hungary, finishing the top three Viveca Lindfors from Finland. But we all understand that the main forces of women's figure skating are ahead of us.

20:20 . And this is how the athletes of the second starting group were presented at the European Championships in Moscow.

20:10. The Russian Olympic Committee Twitter wishes the Russians good luck tonight. The climax is approaching!

20:00 . Ex-Russian Anna Yanovskaya, performing in tandem with Adam Lukacs for Hungary, discusses the results of his performance with his partner and coach. The Hungarian couple finished 14th.

19:30. We invite our readers to express their opinions on this matter.

19:20 . Cool photo gallery of the short program in women’s single skating at the European Championships in Moscow from the “Championship” photojournalist Alexandra Safonova. Enjoy!

19:10 . “The Queen is delighted. Zagitova is cooler than Medvedeva, and it’s real” - review of the short program from Andrey Shitikhin.

The Queen is delighted. Zagitova is cooler than Medvedeva, and it’s real

Medvedeva returned from injury, but lost the short program to Zagitova.

19:00. Let us remind you of the alignment in the leading group after the short program. These skaters will close out the evening.

1. (Russia) – 80.27 (personal record).
2. (Russia) – 78.57.
3. Carolina Costner (Italy) – 78.30 (personal best).
4. (Russia) – 68.70.

18:45. The finals in women's single skating have started! The Italian was first on the ice Micol Christini, took 19th place in the short program . According to the regulations, 24 best figure skaters will take part in the free program after the first part of the performances, which will be divided into four subgroups of six people. Together with the Italian in the first group they will perform Pernille Sørensen, Giada Russo, Sylvia Gugetz, Elzbieta Kropa and Dasha Grm. These are the skaters who took places from 19th to 24th in the short program.

18:30 . You can even buy a flag with a hammer and sickle in the souvenir shop. Rumor has it that it could be very relevant at the Olympics in Pyeongchang.

18:20 . A press conference of the European Ice Dancing Championship winners began at the Megasport Arena. Let us remind you that two Russian couples made it into the top three - Ekaterina Bobrova / Dmitry Solovyov and Alexandra Stepanova / Ivan Bukin.

18:10 . There is practically no one at the ticket office - all tickets were purchased in advance. At the “red” ticket office, located closer to the metro, the queue is not much longer.

18:00. Interview in the official championship program Medvedeva and Zagitova placed on one spread. Only 30 minutes until the start of the women's singles final! We wait!

17:45 . The Russian couple, although they did not take a place on the podium at the European Championship, really pleased the audience with their bright images.

17:35 . The most popular place during breaks is, of course, the buffet. There are dozens of similar kiosks throughout the entire sports complex.

17:25. Bronze medalist of the European Championship Ivan Bukin, performing in tandem with Alexandra Stepanova, studies the judges' scores in anticipation of the awards ceremony.

17:15. Silver medalist of the European Championship Dmitry Solovyov, performing in tandem with Ekaterina Bobrova, shared his impressions of the performance with a “Championship” correspondent Mikhail Chesalin.

“Overall, we are satisfied with the rental. There was only a blot on the second support, which did not turn out very clean. Maybe we performed less emotionally than at the Russian Championship, but still at a good level. We already know what to work on next, and we have time to correct and add something. We will pay even more attention to rumba, because we don’t want to miss out on those precious points, the absence of which can lead to unpleasant consequences. After the short program we were angry with ourselves. But we were spurred on by the fact that there is competition in Russia. This doesn't allow us to relax. We know that the guys are stepping on our heels and are becoming stronger. This helps us move forward too.”

17:00 . The competition in the free program in ice dancing at the European Championships in Moscow has ended. The French duo predictably won Gabriela Papadakis / Guillaume Cizeron for a clear advantage. And the top three were completed by two Russian couples - Ekaterina Bobrova / Dmitry Solovyov and Alexandra Stepanova / Ivan Bukin. Another couple of us Tiffany Zagorski / Jonathan Gurreiro took sixth place.

17:00. There are already quite a lot of spectators in the stands. A full house is quite possible today. Although it should be noted that the multi-colored seats of the Megasport do a great job of masking the voids.

16:50 . The souvenir shop has a wide selection of everything that will help spectators remember the European Championship with pleasure: from magnets to large cups.

16:40 . While we are waiting for the main battle of the evening in women's single skating, the fate of medals in ice dancing is currently being decided. Russian couple Tiffany Zagorski / Jonathan Gurreiro She has already completed her free program and is now in third place. At worst they will be sixth, which is little progress since the pair were only eighth after the short program.

16:30. Information stands installed at almost every entrance to the stands tell spectators about the results and program of the competition.

16:15 . Official poster of the European Championship. The Moscow landmarks in the background change, but the profile of the figure skater remains. Many people entertain themselves by trying to guess who it belongs to and agree that there is something Italian about it.

16:00. Hello, dear figure skating fans. The 2018 European Figure Skating Championships is coming to an end, and for a dessert that is crazy in its magnificence, we get the women's free program. And this means a battle between Evgenia Medvedeva and Alina Zagitova. A stunning event in the world of figure skating, missing which means committing a minor crime. “Championship” begins an online broadcast from “Megasport”, stay with us and find out everything!

January 20th

2. Evgenia Medvedeva (Russia) – 232.86.
3. Carolina Costner (Italy) – 204.25.

4. Maria Sotskova (Russia) – 200.81.

Women. Free program.
1. Alina Zagitova – 157.97,
2. Evgenia Medvedeva – 154.29,
3. Maria Sotskova (all Russia) – 132.11,

4. Carolina Costner (Italy) – 125.95.

Alina Zagitova skated her free program to the music of Minkus from the ballet Don Quixote. It was with this program that last season at the junior level the athlete won all the most important victories. It is quite logical that the coaches decided not to change this program, leaving it for the Olympic season with an eye to the fact that the young figure skater will skate it more confidently.

Composer Ludwig Minkus wrote his ballet specifically “for the feet” of the dancers, initially making it very convenient for performance. Alternation of slow and fast parts, music that “drags” and charges emotionally. And the second half of Zagitova’s program musically helps the athlete perform difficult jumps. Zagitova performs all her jumping elements in the second part of the program.

At the Megasport skating rink, yesterday’s junior followed a clean skate in the short program with a clean free skate. True, the athlete herself said after the performance that she was critical of herself and rated her performance as a “B”, since there were shortcomings.

Seeing the final results on the scoreboard, the winner’s reaction was restrained:

I still don’t understand what happened. But I'm glad. This will give me strength for the future.

Dancing. Results.
1. Gabriela Papadakis / Guillaume Cizeron (France) – 203.16.
2. Ekaterina Bobrova / Dmitry Solovyov (Russia) – 187.13.
3. Alexandra Stepanova / Ivan Bukin (Russia) – 184.86…

6. Tiffany Zagorski / Jonathan Gurreiro (Russia) – 168.45.

The Moscow European Figure Skating Championship gave the fans exactly what they expected from it: great performances, exciting competition and, of course, a whole scattering of medals. There are still demonstration performances ahead, but the sports results can be summed up now. We recall the most striking events of the past continental tournament, which became a real pre-Olympic revelation for fans of Russian figure skating.

Medvedeva returned, but lost

Of course, the main attention of figure skating fans was drawn to the battle between two outstanding Russian figure skaters - Evgenia Medvedeva And Alina Zagitova. It was the first time it took place at such a high international level and met the expectations of the audience. Medvedeva’s return from injury in itself is a great joy for her fans. Zhenya showed that her health was fine, but in the European battle she perhaps lacked the competitive tone and usual ease. I would like to believe that by the Olympics Medvedeva will be able to gain more strength and appear in her best athletic form.

Without any respect. Now Zagitova is Russia's main hope?

What else can you call a figure skater who beat a two-time world champion at the age of 15? So what should Medvedeva do now?

As well as, of course, the dignity of which cannot be diminished. Two excellent performances of the most technically complex programs at a tournament of this level are a tremendous success! Before the start of the competition, fans in the Megasport stands more actively supported Medvedeva, but now the interest in Zagitova will probably be no less. And in such a situation, one cannot help but congratulate coach Eteri Tutberidze. At the Sochi Olympics she trained one figure skating star, and in Pyeongchang there will be two of them!

Continuer of victorious traditions?

It should be noted that Alina won her debut European Championship - this fact increases the value of the award many times over. As well as the value of a silver medal Dmitry Aliev, who fought at the continental level for the first time and succeeded. In both the short and free programs, Dmitry looked great and was second only to the favorite Fernandez, outwardly easily ahead of both the mistaken Kolyada and the not at all brilliant Samarin. Of course, all Russian figure skating fans are waiting with bated breath for the successor to the victorious traditions of Yagudin and Plushenko to appear on the horizon. Maybe they waited?

Plushenko may be returning. The debutant won the Olympic showdown

The leader of Russian men's skating was not ready for the European Championships. And miraculously won a medal.

There is a Russian pedestal!

A Russian podium at the European Championships is not uncommon. In 2018, he was destined to compete in pairs skating. The fight for places on the podium turned out to be incredibly dramatic. Natalia Zabiyako And Alexander Enbert were one hundredth (!) ahead of competitors from France in the battle for third place. and had every chance of winning, but made a mistake and became only second, and again rose to first place and Vladimir Morozov, who, according to the results of the short program, were only in fifth place, but in the free program they “lit up” so much that they forced the Megasport stands to applaud while standing.

We went all in and won. Tarasova and Morozov defended the championship title

Ultra-si from the champions, trembling legs from the leaders and one hundredth of a point from the judges. And in the end, three medals for Russia.

World record from the French

Came close to beating any of the world records set by Evgenia Medvedeva, but did not reach the historical results. However, the audience was still not left without a world record. Invincible French couple Gabriella Papadakis And Guillaume Cizeron performed the free dance like no one else in the world has done before, scoring 121.87 points. The sum of the two programs is also a record – 203.16. The gap from the silver medalists was more than 16 points. The French won their fourth European Championship in a row and confirmed that they are only targeting gold at the upcoming Olympics.

The Spaniard is hot on Plushenko's heels

If we talk about records for the number of medals, the Spanish figure skater is getting closer to them Javier Fernandez. He also went to Moscow as the clear favorite of the competition and confirmed his status by winning the sixth gold award. Of the active skaters, Javier is the most titled, if you count only victories at the European Championships. In the coming weeks, the Spaniard's main goal is, of course, to bring his country a long-awaited medal in figure skating, and in the future he is thinking about equaling Evgeni Plushenko, who won seven European Championships. And only Schaefer and Salchow performed better than Plushenko in the pre-war period. The first became the best in Europe eight times, the second nine times.

Fernandez: I will do everything possible to win an Olympic medal

Spanish figure skater Javier Fernandez won the European Championships for the sixth time in a row. But his main goal is to win an Olympic medal.

Medal record

But fans of the Russian team are also pleased with the calculation of the awards won in Moscow. Based on the results of four disciplines, our skaters won nine medals out of a possible 12 - an impressive result and a repeat of the record in Russian history. Previously, our team won nine medals at one European Championship three times. The first two times this happened in 1998 and 1999, when Yagudin and Plushenko, Berezhnaya and Sikharulidze, Butyrskaya and Slutskaya, Petrova and Tikhonov shone on the ice. Such impressive medal results were achieved again in the current Olympic cycle - in 2015. What’s curious is that only three pairs that were on the podium back then were able to contribute to the 2018 record: Stolbova/Klimov, Tarasova/Morozov and Stepanova/Bukin.

Waiting for the Olympic squad

The main result of the European Championship in Moscow has not yet found its real shape, but will receive material embodiment in the coming days, if not hours. We are, of course, talking about a list of 15 athletes who will go to defend the country’s honor at the Olympics in Pyeongchang. It is known that the Russian Figure Skating Federation can hold additional skates if they really want to, but this time, perhaps, everything is quite transparent. The intrigue that existed in men's skating was resolved in favor Dmitry Aliev. In dance and women's skating, none of the candidates for the Olympic team made anyone doubt themselves, and in pairs skating, the Russian podium seems to speak for itself. Now all that remains is to wait for the decision of the FFKR commission and the approval of the long-awaited list of Olympians.

Russian dance couple Ekaterina Bobrova / Dmitry Solovyov came out on top in the short program at the European Figure Skating Championships in Ostrava, Czech Republic, after a revision of the judges' scores

Photo: Jaroslav Ozana/CTK/Global Look Press

After a short program for the dance duets, the judges decided to review the results of the competition leaders, Italians Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte. The score of the 2014 world and European champions was reduced by one point, which is why they missed out ahead of the 2013 European champions Russians Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitry Solovyov.

General Director of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) Alexander Kogan said that the technical team had the right to review the results of Cappellini and Lanotte’s performance in the short dance. According to him, the assessment was reduced in accordance with the rules.

“The Italians were deducted one point for a prohibited element. The technical team revised its assessment in accordance with the rules. They have the right to do so. For the prohibited element, the Italians were deducted one point,” R-Sport quotes Kogan.

After the revision of the estimates, Bobrova and Solovyov were left with 76.18 points. Cappellini and Lanotte dropped to second place with 75.65 points. Third are the world and European champions of the last two years, Gabriela Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron from France (75.48). Two more Russian duets Alexandra Stepanova/Ivan Bukin (68.17) and Victoria Sinitsyna/Nikita Katsalapov (64.67) take sixth and eighth places, respectively.

The day before, the first set of awards was awarded at the European Championships. In pair skating, the victory was won by Russians Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov, who had previously twice become bronze medalists at the continental championship.

In the free program, Tarasova and Morozov took second place, losing almost two points to Alena Savchenko and Bruno Massot, representing Germany (146.76 points versus 148.59). Moreover, the day before, in the short program, the Russians were seven points ahead of the Germans and showed the best result in total (227.58 points versus 222.35).

Savchenko has been performing with Masso since 2015. Previously, together with Robin Szolkowy, she won the world championships five times, became European champion four times and won two bronze medals at the Olympic Games - in Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014. Szolkowy now trains Tarasova and Morozov, working in Moscow in Nina Moser’s group.

The third in the final classification were the French Vanessa James and Morgan Cipres (220.02). Three-time Russian champions Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov were left without medals due to their partner’s fall during a flip throw. The Olympic champions took fourth place in the team competition in the sum of two programs. Another Russian pair Natalya Zabiyako/Alexander Enbert finished the tournament fifth.

Earlier at the European Championships, single skaters presented a short program. Among women, the current world and European champion, Russian Evgenia Medvedeva, leads with 78.92 points. Second is another representative of Russia, Anna Pogorilaya (74.39), who won bronze medals at the last two continental championships. In intermediate third place is five-time European champion Italian Carolina Costner (72.40), who returned to the ice after disqualification. The third Russian woman, 16-year-old Maria Sotskova (72.17), is in fourth position.
