The basis of the Asian Games were the championships of the Far East, mainly competitions between representatives of China, Japan and the Philippines, which were held from 1913 to 1934. During the Games of the 14th Olympiad (1948) in London, representatives of the Asian countries participating in them agreed to create a sports association of the Asian Games. It was formed under the name Asian Games Federation in 1949 at an assembly in New Delhi, where it was decided to hold the first Asian Games in New Delhi in 1951. In 1982, the Asian Games Federation received recognition from the IOC. At the General Assembly held on November 16, 1982 in New Delhi, this continental sports organization changed its name to the one it still bears today - the Olympic Council of Asia.
